Did Obsidian change their minds?
I remember that in an old interview they had said that it would only be possible to play as Elves and Humans, which is honestly quite sad because they are the least interesting races in Eora if you don't count the subraces of each one.
But recently it seems that it is now possible to play Godlike, and probably the others, did they change their minds?

Since all the replies so far in this thread are by culture warrior activists, who literally know nothing about the game they are grifting, I thought I might point to what we actually know at this point from previews, interviews and announcements

- you are story-bound to be a somewhat of a godlike, which comes with a surprise because of PoE2 events
- you can choose to be either human or elvish born
- nothing is stopping you from creating a "white cis male human" this is a fact as previewers already showcased it
- it is mandatory to select appropriate [monstrous] godlike features
- you may choose to hide said godlike features in-game if it is more your liking to have a character that looks normal
- but this is cosmetic only, characters in game will still react to you instantly identifying you as a godlike

Are you for real? well that's interesting
what's the language?

We have the same problem here in germany. (It made the localization for DA:V awkward in those places) But hey, I'm not telling anyone how to speak. I'm just saying if some video game dev offers you to chose "they/them" at characer creation, in addition to male/female, they're not forcing anything on you. You can just select the male/female pronoun and that's that.

If it's Portuguese I understand... I'm from Brazil and it's strange, considering that our language is something very serious in schools and in competitions/work.

A mistake in Portuguese in certain things can harm you.
Especially that pronouns in Portuguese are a pain in the ass, it depends a lot on how the sentence is formed and the crasis.
But whatever, either way I really thank you all for clarifying things for me. Seriously, I was so confused.

It's already customary to use "them" when referring to a person of unknown gender. So the problem exists anyway and wouldn't disappear with "them" not being used for non-binary people.
The "they" pronoun does not even EXIST in my native language and probably the vast majority (if not all) of Latin descent languages fyi. It might be customary for some Americans, Canadians, British people and Australians, but it's not some kind of rule that applies to the whole world. I don't think that the "they" pronoun exists in a good amount (again, if not all) of Asian languages too.

Pretty sure that if I refer to someone as he/she to a mentally sane American, he/she won't correct me like: "ACKSHOOOLY, you should say "them"; it's customary!"
It is cultural colonialism at its core. Anglo-centric culture attacks other cultures around the world. Remember "latinx"? Yeah it got its own wiki now:

Oh come on. As if anyone could be forced to adopt english words against their will.
If foreign words seep into our languages, it's because our own native speakers choose to adopt those words. Trying to prevent that is like trying to stop a river with a sieve. People speak how they want to speak. No force will work, in either direction.

My native language is one of these:
Italian, Romanian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian, Polish, Czech, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Dutch, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi, Greek, Welsh, Irish, Lithuanian, Latvian, Japanese, Mandarin or Korean.

Why are you asking me if I'm real? The "they" pronoun literally does not exist in ALL the languages that I've mentioned lol. Big shock or what?
come on drop the jokes, your language is Klingon

When a game only has those choices it can indeed force it.

Well, your native speakers must only buy the idea that it is cool/courageous/rebellous/interesting/progressive/pickyourown. And let me tell you, it is not difficult sell to them when entire anglo media machine works for the goal of making it presentable. Speaking more widely than strictly about pronouns here.

What choice is missing and should be included?

Speaking for germany: we've been adopting english words left and right for the better part of a century. And yes, it's always been a point of contention, especially with the older generation. We've adopted french words before that and latin words and slavic words. No amount of complaining will stop it. It just is.
