BG 3 had actual early access, Conan Exiles had actual early access. And neither of them charged extra for it ... you paid the same as everybody else, but could actually provide meaningful feedback during development.
Its disgusting
The underperforming claims came from a very suspect source without any verification.
What is definitely true is it didn't sell nearly as well as Fallout 4 but that was also part of a very loved and ongoing franchise.
Starfield was a gamble on a new IP and just ended up being mediocre without the franchise inertia of previous Bethesda games.
Starfield still sold pretty well despite everything.
