I dont need huge sales to enjoy a game. And at the same time why would i buy the game on Steam when i have Gamepass?. Why would anyone outside of the biggest of Steam fanboys pay $70 for this when its on Gamepass?.
You know i dont think its simply a coincidence that the games also launching on Gamepass more often than not get a lower steam player count.
True at least a million, definitely no cope
It was expected to sell over a million however (not unique players, sales) currently its estimated 54k own it on steam...... 54k...
The budget was 80m... in comparison PoE was 4.2 million in budget and had twice the concurrent numbers, despite being in a different time (where we had less players)
Trying to call an 80m budget game a niche game is odd.. this is your standard "popular" action adventure with light RPG elements for console type of game.. its one of the most popular genres there is... Its not an cRPG like PoE and PoE2 after all... those were more niche, but still popular with RPG fans and older segments.
Gamepass is a catalogue of over 100 games.. people do not buy gamepass to play a singular game.. that is a silly take.. Other games that had similar budget and were on gamepass had 80-350k players on steam... so its not really an excuse either.
If so many people really did use gamepass (PC) not (forced xbox, that 35+ million have becuase else they can´t play online) then Valve and EGS would be out of business by now.
The reality is that most do not sub and when they do (PC) its for free.. (lots of free months are given away when buying hardware, but also via other events.. then you have the 1 euro deal)
You do have some players that sub to gamepass once or twice a year and then play all large titles they can find within a months span.. but again.. they are not "Avowed" sales.. they are also not just Citizen Sleeper 2... or Farming Simulator 22.... (yes those are also on Gamepass)
Its like trying to argue, that the entirety of Netflix´s sales are due to the Crown..... Or if Disney tried to argue that The Acolyte was the sole reason for all their subs..... get a grip...
You mean the discounted version.
This game officially released thursday the 13th.. (also a work day and still numbers are not really much higher now)
Kingdom Come Delieverence 2, never had actual gameplay critique the same was this game had and most liked it and talked about it in a positive manner... the peak for that game is in another universe compared to this one.. and it had a cheaper development budget.
Avowed is a 80m budget game... 80m... there is no excuse for it to have these numbers on steam.
This game will do fine, and single player titles like these will have a long sales tail
But this isn't the first gamepass game in steam either. The numbers are low even in comparison to them
I do agree that SP games have longer sales tail... but.... look at the numbers.. they are horrid and sure.. in the summer sale when its 75% off then some might bite on it, but not as many as you might think.. this game is most likely not going to sell consistently and in any significat volume after today (outside massive sales) and still not there it will be much.
The game will generate a huge net loss from sales.. But it wont matter, since the game is already backed by MS and will just go into the larger pool (all games, hardware and gamepass revenue) so games that makes a loss are not really an issue.
But its disappointing, that a 80m budget game from Obsidian ends up being this low quality, I would go as far to say this is unheard of.-
Even a tiny game like PoE had over double the numbers on steam.. and that is many years back.. it was crowdfunded and had a mere budget of 4.2 million !!!!..
There is no excuse for the quality of this product.. the overall physics, AI, writing and interactions are not acceptable for a game this budget in my opinion.
