You're lying to yourself.
Well, I mean, Oblivion is one of the best games of all time! (Yes, I really feel that way. I have replayed Oblivion hundreds of times and have done several no fast travel playthroughs of that masterpiece).
Oh yah they started backtracking when they realized they couldn't.

My next question is: where's the depth then?
I honestly don't dislike feargus but he's been sweeping up messes like this since the black isle days.
Bethesda is extremely overrated. Skyrim is lauded as a GREAT game yet I doubt most people that bought it (myself included) have yet to finish the game.
When Obsidian was contracted to make a game in the Fallout universe, they made a better product (Fallout New Vegas), off by a few points on metacritic and Bethesda was likely annoyed a different studio outdid them decided to not do the right thing and even though legally they weren't contractually obligated to give them the bonus even though they were so close, they chose not to.
DEI hires apparently the only reason planes weren't crashing. Bring them back.
Morrowind was easily 10 times better.
Making non static walking or routine based AI or physics... would cost a studio like this 450000000$ atleast.
Morrowind is legendary and they somewhat redeemed themselves with Skyrim....
But even Daggerfall was amazing when it was released...
