Guns class/build?
i see in the screenshots that the player is dual wielding flintlock pistols.

is that specific to a class or can any character use them?
are there lots of gun types?
is an only guns build viable in the game or is it more novelty/special attack stuff?

There are pistols and rifles. I'm currently doing pistol+shield with a rifle as my secondary weapon set on the hardest difficulty. It's completely viable to do only pistols though I will recommend getting lots of dexterity to help with reload speed.

You can mix and match any 1 handed weapon so you can dual wield pistols or mix it with other 1 handed weapons. There are no classes and you pick skills from any tree with the only requirements being level related. Each weapon type (eg Pistol, Rifle) has 5 versions you upgrade to or buy that just deal more damage. You can get quite a few uniques though with some neat things on them.
Any class can use any weapon. You can spread your ability points throughout one of three classes (Fighter, Ranger, Wizard) to make better use of the weapons (e.g. ranged weapons will have damage boosts among the Ranger class abilities).

The only gun types I've come across are pistols (one-handed) and arquebuses (two-handed rifle). You could probably run an only guns build, but higher game difficulty may force you to diversify.

I'm currently running a bow as my primary weapon and use a wand and spell book as my secondary. I only use the wand for environmental actions (activating switches, burning bushes, etc.). I've maxed out my Perception for ranged distance and critical hit chance, some of my gear has + damage to stealth hits.

Weapons aren't specific to any class type, and the way attributes play out encourages going into multiple class skill trees rather than sticking to one.

For example one stat is a flat damage increase to everything, spells, weapons, grenades, etc.

It's the same across the board.

Unfortunately it also has some mandatory skills you need to take i.e. "unlock better food recipes".

I'd suggest speccing across multiple disciplines and then respeccing when you hit milestone levels that unlock a new tier of skills. It's cheap to do.

To answer your question even further, there is only 1 normal pistol and one normal rifle. You can find them at different rarities and even upgrade your own pistols through the rarities to keep them relevant the entire game. The loot table is not massive in this sense. There are also unique weapons, i think like 2-3 unique pistols and 1-2 unique arquebus that you can find that have some abilities and enchantments you can slap on them.
The only gun build is OP in this game
Ranger skill tree has a quick weapon switch and autoloader at Lv10, you can max out your DPS by dual-wielding flintlock pistols and a rifle on backbar. Along with other support skills.
2 unique pistols and 1 unique rifle can be found on the first and second maps early in the game.
Running a dual pistol build myself. Works fine; only real drawback is it makes stealth pretty much impossible.

It would be temporary, picking up Shadowing Beyond and maxing out Essence would extended it further. Killing mobs would take forever in the new area of gotta kill things faster and quicker.
