However they do appear to be absolutely useless in battle, veilguard companions in battle were far more useful...
I am only 5 hours in though, so time will tell if this pattern continues...
That's mainly what they're there for though. They get chewed on by the bears so I get time to reload :P
They do seem to get a slight buff, or rather I think they might finally upgrade from basic to fine/exceptional/et al equipment at some point but direct damage isn't their forte (apart from the furry lady, for reasons that will become obvious). Their abilities are useful though, and with DoT effects can actually do a bit of damage, particularly if the enemy is vulnerable to that type of damage. Also useful for ticking up things like shock damage since once it procs it has an AoE.
