Steam Deck - Xbox saves not loading
Started to play the game last night and I chose sync my saves to the Xbox cloud. But when I went to try the game on my Steam Deck none of my saves were available. Turns out that Xbox cloud saves features isn't available on the Deck right now. To get around this I had to load into my save file on PC and go into the settings while in games and unchecked the "Xbox" button under the "game" tab. Then I went to save my game and it registered this as the first save type on my PC. Finally, I exited the game on my PC and let Steam do it's thing. Switched over to my Deck, booted up the game and I found my save.

TL;DR - don't use Xbox cloud saves with Avowed if you intend to play on your Steam Deck and desktop PC.

It's too late for me with 20hrs in, when I realized xbox network saves are not available on SD. Goes without saying that I was quite bummed about not being able to cross play. So, THANKS for this workaround :steamhappy:

I wouldn't play it on the Steam Deck. It's not Steam Deck verified, and there've been reports of some really weird bugs.
Actually, not sure if I understand how you were able to do this. Where did you uncheck the "Xbox" button under the "game" tab, while still being logged into xbox? Which menu did you see this uncheck option in? I already have the steam deck saves toggle on, but game still saves in xbox, as I am still logged in (which is done BEFORE you can load up your saves. I am even contemplating a replay :(

Try loading your save on PC while being logged into Xbox. Then go to settings, second tab to the right, and there should be an Xbox related button you can uncheck. After that, create a new save and that allow the steam cloud to sync the save for the Deck.

Hopefully that works for you. I'll check back tomorrow as I'm away from my PC and I'm typing this reply on my Deck.
Thank you for following up on this. By "being logged into Xbox', do you mean the console or X-Box Cloud Gaming account on a PC browser? If the latter, then I was logged into Xbox Cloud account, while trying to save on PC, but to no avail. What I don't understand is that how to log out of Xbox Network AFTER loading a save (without having to exit the game first and hence losing your active session). As you can only log out of Xbox network (as far as I know) from the main Avowed Menu Screen (which is before you load up a game). Once you log out of the Xbox Network, then the "Load Game" option is greyed out (understandably), and once you load a save, you can't log out of Xbox without first exiting Game menu to the Main Menu, and hence, you are back to square one. What am I missing? I have 50 hrs in so really hoping this is resolved somehow. If I knew I could save on Steam Cloud, would have never been "nudged/pushed" by MS to start using XBox Network. Gracias

Okay, I just tried my method again and it worked. Here's the steps I did on my PC:
1) Boot up Avowed.
2) Make Sure you're signed into Xbox Network.
3) Open "settings" -> switch to "game" tab.
4) "Use Xbox Saves", second option under game tab, should be checked to "On".
5) Back to the main menu and load your most recent or preferred game.
6) Once your file is loaded, go back in to the "settings" menu and switch over to the "game" tab.
7) Uncheck the "Use Xbox Saves" option and it will read as "Off".
8) Apply Changes to the settings and back out of the menu.
9) Save your game and save into a blank save file. This should not register to the Steam Cloud once you quit the game.

Let me know if you can get this work.

YES!! I was being stupid; couldn't see the "Use Xbox Saves" toggle. Thanks again for making it clear. What kind of fps are you getting on the SD? Around 45-50 fps is what I am seeing (medium settings and Decky FrameGen).
