No wonder the western video game industry is ♥♥♥♥ and people are fired. Too much corporate ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (politics, bad hiring practices, grifters, crooks, frauds, bad faith actors, toxic posivity bubbles, no care for craft, in conflict with gamers, not gamers themselves ,etc)

Fortunately, there are still the japanese devs since the 80s:

Sega, SNK, Nintendo, Namcot, Team Ninja, Taito, Data East, Capcom, Konami, to stay true to the spirit of good video games, 40 years later.

Yes, but still sad. Such a 30 years waste of talents.
Kain Feb 15 @ 7:55am
The absolute champ of RPG writers.
Kain Feb 15 @ 7:56am
I'll just say that you're wrong about Apogee. Turbo Overkill is awesome
Ah yes, Kotor 2 is my favourite, even more so than the original.

I like how blizzard is so dead it wasn't even worthy of mention in this list.
(also judging by the latest civ, firaxis may be half dead, depressing really)

Old school developers are being actively ousted from the game industry. Paradox famously fired Brian Mitsoda from making VTM: Bloodlines 2, and scrapped his entire version of the game. As a result, Bloodlines 2 is now a parkour-sim with all CRPG elements ripped out.

All studios which sold to big corpos are dying. In the West, only European independent studios, like Larian, Warhorse, or OwlCat, are saving the CRPG genre. And they are proving that great games can still be made, at a fraction of the cost of AAA slop.

I forgot Paradox too.

Exactly. I would add some smaller indies too.

Yea, East is the way to go to today with AAA gaming. West is rotten to the core with mind virus.
Jem Feb 15 @ 8:09am
Owlcat games are in the same vein than western RPGs.
Kyota Feb 15 @ 8:51am
Bro we lost to the east.

Absolutely pathetic.

But deserved.
CD Projekt and Rockstar are definitely far from dead.

They brought this upon themselves. I've only been buying Eastern games for the past 10 months.
Dude, I´m just glad I grew up with normal and passionate made Games.

Hope Indie Studios will rise at this point your game is automatically a win If you don´t put politics in them and when It does not look like fortnite.
inXile is still making good games (WL2, Torment, WL3)

I am not so sure about that. I think they will make the same mistakes as the others studios.
And CD Projekt will devolve into a Ubisoft basically.
