Anything like Pillars of Eternity story wise?

I liked those two games so much, kinda wish this was also a CRPG but if the story is anywhere close to those two games I'm going to like it.

Anyone that has the early access that can compare them?

Honestly? No. The story is nowhere NEAR PoE levels. In fact, thus far, the story is the weakest part to me. The areas are okay to explore, the combat works, but the quests and storyline are just....so basic.

I wish they had just made this a CRPG.

About 8 hours in (more but i restarted because i didnt like my envoy)

And the story is just about picking up, feels a bit like greedfalls plot but certainly with a heavy obsidian brush in the coating

And let us be fair, Obsidian never were the best storytellers, but they made it fun to uncover it and that is being delivered

There are 4 permanent companions and 2 temporary companions. As to whether any of them are like Durance, I seriously doubt it--he was the least popular companion in PoE1 by a lot.

I'm only 4 hours in so far, but the side quests are pretty interesting and well-written. The main story is still more of a "premise" than a story so far, but I'm sure it will eventually pick up as the mysteries of the soul plague are uncovered.

No. This is more focused on the Action side of things and writing is somewhere subpar.
There is no real agency either in ths game, its basically an entry title to the action adventure with light RPG elements genre.

Thanks for the answers guys, gonna wait this one out until its 20 bucks I guess, sucks because I was hyped for an obsidian game but I dont follow the behind the scenes.

Don’t be hyped by Obsidian games anymore,

Avowed is an excellent average game. 30-40 bucks is fine.
However yeah, if you like cRPG, crew management and book-like narrative, this game sucks in both.

Yes, we have GenZ writers, who have 0 experience and literally suffer from social media brainrot, on the other side you have millenial writing like Borderlands 3, these people are not young, but still insanely bad, since they are still trying to copy what made the first Avengers movie fun in 2012, seems like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_phenomenon was right, there was a transformative event, but for the gaming world.

Add some political agendas on top and since they all lack talent, they fail to anchor their "message" inside the game world, so it comes off as blatant virtue signaling which breaks the immersion.

Last but not least we have some really talented people, but most of them left or got cancelled.

A lovely state of the industry.
