Avowed
so do we just live with this mindset now?
that if a singleplayer game doesn't have like, a hundred thousand or more players in a week ( even if its early access ) that it's deemed a failure?

because if so, that's stupid as hell lol.

People are being way to hardcore scammed into the cultural war grift, so now instead of using steam to play games, they use it to cry about games they were never gonna play in the first place.

As annoying as it can be for big launches like this one, you need to filter out all that noise. If you want the game get it, play it, form your own experience and oppinion on it and then move onto the next game. There´s no point in paying attention to this people cause despite what they think they don´t make success or failures in games.

They try it with Baldur´s Gate 3 and didn´t work. They tried with Concord and that game failed so they claim victory, despite the desinterest of players on live services being the real killer. This game success or failure will once again be tied onto completely different factors than the 40 steam users that don´t own it nor did intended to that are spending their entire day on here and other places just vomiting over and over the same oppinions of their youtube idols. In any case, if it fails, you should blame Microsoft and the Gamerpass self-inflicted shoot on the foot that has become the real nail in the coffin for the sales of several of their big launches. And as for the people of this forum, just block men, trust me, takes time, but makes the experience on the next big launch much more smooth.

i wouldn't pay 90$ for a 30 hour game either
but i do like what i've seen
however im more excited for outer worlds 2

I didn't realize it was that short. Kind of funny people are calling it "Obsidian's Skyrim" then considering how much bigger Skyrim is.

Personally I also don't like that Avowed doesn't let you pick a race. Pillars of Eternity lets you play as humans, elves, dwarves, aumaua, orlan, and godlike. And this game locks you into godlike. I believe it was for story reasons but still sucks.

Looks fun honestly, but I'll wait for a sale probably.

Depends on how much money the game cost to make. If it was a big budget title, simultaneous player count in its opening weeks is a fairly good indicator of a game's general success. Yes, you can argue 'but there are multiple storefronts other than Steam to buy it from,' but it remains a good indicator on how well a game is doing.

Avowed took a while and was expensive to make. Its presentation doesn't really have much to show for it so first impressions are lukewarm.

There's also the imaginary culture war nonsense that's going on against everything where you can pick a pronoun, has black people in it that aren't stereotypes, or has women in a (non-sexual) position of power, so there's that entire group of weirdos loudly trying to get people not to play the games that offend them. Those people are going to focus hardest on player counts.

The real issue is that Avowed just doesn't do anything amazing. It's a game that exists. If you've played any Bethesda game in the past two decades, you've played this game. The most interesting part of this game is the combat, and building your character tends to be more complicated than Bethesda slop. It tries to strike a middle line between a traditional isometric CRPG and open world Bethesda games. It does this Perfectly Fine. For $70, though, people want more than Perfectly Fine and understandably so. This is an expensive game, but it feels like a studio's mid-budget title. That fact is more likely to push people away than any of the above stuff.

..wait, do people *want* black people that are sterotypes?

I for one, will not contribute to the steam numbers anytime soon. I'll be playing it on gamepass.

I think it's wishfull thinking. People want it to fail because they believe it represents a threat to them. Like check the hate boner people have for the upcoming AssCreed despite pre-orders being solid and previous games being financial successful.

Not going to say will be a winner, honestly I think this game is doing fine at most. But I would be able extremely skeptical about anyone stating anything as a fact.

maybe they dont like this forced ideology in their games
