Why Is This Game So Demanding?
Is it just the latest crappy Unreal engine with almost zero performance polish? I am running a 4090 and I have to use DLSS in some areas. Insane!

Hey Envoy!

Sorry you're running into technical issues. Try switching from DLSS to TSR in the graphics settings. It helps prevent crashes for some players. TSR is built into the engine and provides a stable alternative while we look into the issue with DLSS.

Thank you.
Poorly optimized like all new games.
3080ti no prob here samsung g9

120 fps here, try different gpu drivers, update windows, check for a new chipset driver, new bios,etc.. I have everything on Epic and its running great.

Thanks for the quick reply. The game itself is really good so far but it's crazy how poorly the latest Unreal engine games run. I'll try TSR and tweaking a few settings as well.

Thanks again!

to be fair poor optimization is a lot of games this days not just unreal engine games

It's because the 4090 is obsolete, get a 5090 or lower the settings a bit.
Devs don't optimize anymore. They rely on unreal and dlss to to the lifting for them.

do you have todays latest driver from nvidia, that solved every issue I had with performance. 4090 playing at 4k no dlss with 100+ fps in most places..

Sounds about right, devs refuse to properly optimize for UE5. They take things like nanite for granted and just have meshes that don't have the appropriate amount of topology, instead opting to use high-poly and allowing nanite to try and deal with it.
Its hilarious and they have been called out on youtube videos demonstrating that you can get UE5 to run fantastic if you approach it without being so incredibly lazy.
The fixes they're probably gonna try to do will just be to reduce the amount of mesh quality allowed on the screen until everybody is happy or something, instead of actually using good topology.
And that's just for nanite, I bet they've terribly implemented lumens system as well.

Unreal Engine global illumination, you turn it down and frame rate shoots up,

144 fps on a 13700k/4080 at 3440x1440 at high settings DLSS quality/FG on. 98-120 fps with FG off. It's a ue5 game, you're gonna either have to use upscaling, or wait for optimization.

*Edit* ray tracing is on from the start too.
