How is sword and board?
Does it reward perfect blocking? Are the perfect block windows tight and require skill? Does the game let you add shield spikes to deal damage through blocking? Are there different sizes of shield that have different unique abilities (eg tiny shields perfect block better, but block less damage, larger shields block more damage, but perfect block worse)? The sword/board gameplay for this highly interests me and I want to know more. But I don't want to watch play-through's of the game before I play it myself.

Every review says melee is the most disappointing gameplay style
melee upgrades are simply passive bonuses. very generic

Looking at the melee tree for 2 seconds proves that completely untrue. Guess were doing the misinformation like every release now.

To answer your question OP the melee looked really good from what very little I did watch, like you I refuse to watch playthroughs. There is actual skills for perfect block and the actual melee abilities I havent unlocked yet do look interesting. These other people are fools just spouting nonsene.

Great! I love perfect parry/block mechanics. This is why I'm still investing my time into KCD2 before this game fully launches.

So ive actually died twice now, playign on the hardest difficulty in the first few fights, which makes me incredibly happy. I cant stand when games are to ez. But the movement and the melee feels really good so far, its reminding me of dark messiah.
