What's the attraction?
Look. It's a fantasy RPG. I'm probably buying this either way, but I don't get the hype. The trailers hasn't convinced me that it is anything more than a generic fantasy action RPG with kind of outdated graphics. It's not really pulling me into the world either with trailer storytelling that has me drooling. And now I hear no romance options, which really isn't helping them with emotional investment.
I haven't been following the game closely so obviously I'm missing something, but what is it? Is it more than Obsidians rep that has people frothing for this game, or does it offer something I have yet to see?

What?

Anyway, its so hyped because its Obsidian's take on Elder Scrolls mainly Skyrim, and with all the success and love Skyrim has had, and the rest of Elder Scrolls, it has people excited. We all wanted more, TES 6 is a long way away, if they've done this right it could be GOTY and keep people going until TES 6.

The Pillars of Eternity setting has it's fans. For my money though it looks like the closest thing to a Dark Messiah of Might and Magic successor, which I've been waiting for since 2006.

I'm just ravenous for first person fantasy action-rpg. When was the last one?
Honestly, watch a trailer. Make the judgement for yourself. It's basically semi open world Skyrim. But with Pillars of Eternith lore. Which is really good. And it's obsidian who has had a pretty great track record with their games.

If you don't feel good about a day one buy then watch people play and talk about it over the weekend and make the normal purchase next week on the actual release day. No one else controls your money but you. So there isn't any harm in seeing how the weekend goes before committing or not committing a purchase. Buyers remorse sucks.
Oki, I can understand all the above, but I kinda wish it was something in the game that was causing the ruccus more than a desire for reliving something beloved or starvation. :)

Im a big fan of obsidian and bethesdas way of making their games so therefore im interested in seeing if this will be a success or not.
Even despite starfield not living up to expectations I still did have my fair fun with that game.

Im personally just hoping they will manage to hit gold with one of their titles eventually.

But basically the entire way they build their games is whats appealing to me and why I personally am hyped for this title. :-)

Main thing is this is Obsidian game, worth checking out even if it turns out crap imo. Play it, make your own mind and don't listen to anyone - it's only 15$ on game pass.
It just looks too cartoonish to be good. Models are ugly. Quite unappealing.
The attraction is action gameplay on console, that suits a controller in this action adventure.
Factor in its free to play for 30m+ players on console.

That is the main attraction. I am hard pressed to see other than that, maybe that its set in Eora, but then again... since its an Action Adventure I am not sure fans of PoE will enjoy it.
Seems like a creation for the modern console audience (no this has nothing to do with that silly woke? talk)

Don't get tricked by the fear of missing out. This game will probably go for $29.99 in less than six months, look at Veilguard.
Out-dated graphics? Have you actually watched the buttery smooth 4K60 gameplay they have out? The water and reflections are some of the best in the business. I don't prefer 1st person, but I like CP77 and so I think I will like this one too, especially considering you can switch to 3rd whenever you want. I just hope they added an easier way to switch between 1st and 3rd w/o having to go deep into the menu and sub-menus to switch.
It being an Obsidian game is part of it, yes. Obsidian hasn't made a bad game for 20 years, so they've earned players trust.

But also the game is set in the PoE universe, which has a large cult following, and beyond that is just...looks good. Like, the graphics look gorgeous, the combat looks fun, the companions look interesting. It just looks like a good game.

Outer Worlds is sometimes considered the worst Obsidian game, and it still has a "generally favorable" status on Metacritic user reviews.

It's not a "bad" game. *You* may not personally like it, but it wasn't a flop or a failure. Plenty of people enjoyed that game; I'm one of them.

Hah. It's starvation insomuch as no other game has stepped up to the gap. Problem is most first person ARPG's either lean too much into the combat side of things to the point it's basically a fighting system with a loose game attached (Mount & Blade) or too far into the RPG to the point the action is largely just click spam (The Elder Scrolls). What I'd want to see is something more akin to a swords n sorcery version of Borderlands with a more traditional RPG progression system. To be honest I'm expecting this to be more The Outer Worlds - Fantasy Edition, but even that would be closer to the mark than anything else I've seen in the past decade or so (plus I didn't actually mind Outer Worlds. Main complaint I'd have with it is the same as the main complement I'd give it - it's RPG comfort food. Competently put together, well written albeit predictable plot and decent world building. Had fun playing through it the first time but I've never felt the need to pick it up since).

It also sold 4 million copies, which is more than most Obsidian titles manage.
