Too little too late, Matt Hansen's firing is nothing but a token action, the damage has been done

Given Avowed is set to come out in February, any influence the art director had on the story and the general progression of the game has already been done, it's why he waited until now to spout his racist views. Although Obsidian firing him was the right move, this game will already be rotten to the core due to it going through an entire development cycle under his fetid leadership. It's going to be woke trash, it's going to be nothing but propaganda, it's going to be constant ideology hammered into your skull like dragon age veilguard was. If they are truly committed to correcting course, they will delay the game and rework it to make it great again, but something tells me the firing of Matt Hansen isn't a rebuttal of his ideology, but rather annoyance at him giving the game away too soon.

Doubtful. Microsoft is in full support of what Hansen said and believes. If they weren’t, they would have made a public statement within the first 24 hours of this controversy. It’s been over two weeks and they’ve done nothing.

The issue is the ESG money has been drying up, as ubisoft found out the hard way since they are going under so hard they might be getting bought out by tencent. So now microsoft has a hard decision to make. As we saw with their streaming platform they don't have an infinite amount of money to dump into a failing project so they have to either quit this crusade or face the oncoming liquidation.

While Hansen's bizarre rants are indeed something that should have gotten him fired, I think we would have seen something official from Obsidian distancing themselves if that had indeed been the case. The lack of such seems to show that he is just laying low, and letting the storm subside.

OP seems to just straight up completely ignore everyone asking for sources. Wonder why.

I agree with the above sentiment, if Obsidian did indeed let him go, it would have been very official. Feargus (Obsidian's CEO) has literally said in a mass email to every employee at Obsidian that they will just lay low and wait it out until it blows over, so clearly that also seems to include Hansen's employment. He's not going anywhere, because all of Obsidian seems to be behind him. Which is the real issue here. It's not just one rotten apple, it's the entire barrel.

I can tell you why.

Because the left demonized a man who stood up for and protected a woman and made it national news, so when he got off (and quite justly I might add as it never should have gone to court) of course the President elect and the VP elect would use the photo op.

Had the left left it well enough alone and kept it to local news, where it didn't become a national incident it never would gotten like this.

The left really needs to learn not to escalate things that happen, keep it local and let the rest take care of itself. They don't need to politicize everything to push a point because the right, now that they are in power in every branch of government, will be able to use each and every example the left pushed as a way to push back.

Yes, and people are choosing not to play the video games that have a bunch of modern day ideology and social politics and commentary hamfisted into them where they don't belong and thus AAA studios are having failure after failure after failure because they just refuse to give gamers, the people who buy and play video games, what they want.

It is what it is. Video games can be art but they are also a product that the companies need to convince people is worth their money. They've long since sacrificed the trust of the gamers to push their own narratives so they will have to make games gamers want consistently if they want to stay in business, get the memo about what gamers want, deliver what they want and remove anyone and everyone in their studio who antagonizes the gamers.

They are free to not do any of this; of course. They just will be replaced by the indie studios that will give gamers what they want.
