In your opinion has the comments by Art Director Matt Hansen endangered his coworkers jobs and benefits?
Personally, I find his actions highly irresponsible, even if he feels that way. Alienating more than half your customer base for personal glory on Bluesky and endangering your employers project prior to the release is the height of stupidity and the costs can be in jobs, benefits, and promotions. If this costs Avowed even 1/10th of it's previous sales it likely there will be layoffs at the studio and cut backs on benefits. I find his actions in this light damning and dangerous to the company, as it shows he cares more about his personal clout than his coworkers or the company's overall health, and that is not the standard you want in an employee.

#527 top seller
Imho he should preface some of his tweets with that being his opinion and does not reflect the views of his company. TBH many of his tweets are not necessary. If you need therapy, go to therapy, just saying.

Ofc it did. But it will hardly hurt MS in any meaningful way. They are just too financially powerful. But also once upon a time, Nokia had 70% of the mobile market. Piece by piece they will erode. Xbox is already dead. It just takes time.

Avowed was already on my ignore list, so I'm pretty sure somebody was already tweeting how much they hate paying customers. I don't think i've even heard of avowed in months so I can't remember why they were originally on my ignore list anymore.

What did he say?
Nvm I just saw the tweets and it’s baffling why these people continue saying the quiet part out loud. There has to be staff at Obsidian seething right now.

Agreed 100%. After I saw the Force Gaming review, I was pretty excited for the game release. Now I'm not so sure I want to reward a company that employs people who are happy to just spout vitriol online about people who don't agree with them 100% of the time.

This is exactly what I opined in several forums already.

The irresponsibility of this action is, in my opinion, legally actionable, and if I were working at Obsidian I'd be reviewing my options along those lines right now. Even if I 100% agreed with his agenda.

With zero hyperbole, his outburst is going to result in an up to 50% drop in the game's sales prospects, because everyone just learning about this game are going to tune in and find better than half of every online influencer sh---ing on the game, and when it finally drops, critics will give it 10/10 and users will give it 2/10, both lies and both equally worthless. We've seen the fate of such games already.

This could have been a fantastic launch and THIS ONE GUY ruined it.

If i was another employee/shareholder at the company i'd be pissed at the Art Director for threatening sales just to boost their ego and activism

Supposed to remain professional and unbiased at work, but this is a celebration of breaking all of that to 'own the chuds'

Same 'chuds' who buy your games and keep you employed

Brilliant move.

edit: of course since his comments said the game would be infested with all their personal political agendas (hello veilguard), i say thanks for bragging about it so early on, easy to skip buying this and just move to the next game

I'm surprised he still has that job there. If Obsidian had any sense at all they would immediately publicly fire him and publicly apologize for his unhinged, brand-damaging, potential sales-tanking, hateful meltdowns on social media that have already done so much damage before the game has even been released. This is the bare minimum they should do in this situation to appease their potential customers.

But if they had any sense they would also read the room and completely walk back and erase any trace of this sickening woke FILTH from their game, and I just don't see that happening at this point. So into the flaming dumpster it goes with all the rest.

This kind of stuff amazes me every time, really. I mean... Where's the logic in it? Going to war with your potenial customers, that's it. I mean, when you make a product, the idea is to try and sell it to as many people as possible - the more, the better - in order to not only cover the production costs, but also make sure you'll earn enough to put food on your table (or, these days, cover your salary, I guess). Going to war with your customers (or at least engaging in open hositility with them like this) is very contradictive to that goal. I mean, imagine opening a stall at some street and then shouting at the top of your lungs that those who do not share your views and/or politics are not welcome to buy your products? Your products likely won't sell well, or at best only about half as well as they should have, in comparison to what they'd have sold had you just conducted business as usual, without your politics or views getting into it...

One can only guess they either don't understand this or do not care, probably because they won't really suffer much in the way of consequences for it...

Then again, maybe this one dude is just trying to intentionally lose his job, considering he's been talking about wanting to be replaced by a PoC...

More than half your customers? He's pandering to 2% of the population, hes alienating a hell of a lot more than half.
Grimno Nov 26, 2024 @ 6:13pm
Probably. But at the end of the day, for me personally it doesn't matter in the slightest.
The game will release and I can buy it and play it if I want.
It succeeding or flopping does nothing to me.
Like Baldurs Gate 3 did fantastic and it didn't effect my experience at all.

Although making fun of Elon is always based
