Hey everyone, we're glad most of you are enjoying the game. But we noticed some people were having some issues that we can hopefully address here:

Virtual Desktop
When using Virtual Desktop, don't manually open SteamVR, instead open the game directly from the Virtual Desktop menu.

OpenVR
The game runs on OpenXR, any headset running on OpenVR will have lag issues (jitter).
Please make sure that SteamVR runs the OpenXR runtime and not OpenVR.

This lag unfortunately includes WMR headsets that use their own runtime. For Pimax users, there is a way to run OpenXR, please check out the following github:

If you get a "fatal error" on startup, make sure to disable the OpenXR toolkit.

thanks thats it works fine now on varjo aero just turn on xr in varjo base and it runs without jitter with the light rurn on

Hi. I bought 7th guest yesterday and was very dissapointed. The game crashed in OpenXR and ran like crap in SteamVR on R5 5600X/16gigs/SSD/3060TI +Reverb G2. Even when I set all ingame settings to low and lower SS to 50% in steamVR, it was still a stuttering mess with very high latency. I got sick within 20 min, unplayable basically :( Have you fixed OpenXR issues today?

What I've found so far running with Quest 2:

Virtual Desktop + Steam VR = Vomit inducing stutter/lag and unplayable
Virtual Desktop + Loading game from menu = No lag but jitters like my head is twitching - Fixed by disabling OpenXR Toolkit as suggested by gn0me in another thread.

Air Link + Game = Runs great but doesn't register play time or achievements (I'm at the 7th hour currently)
Air link + Steam VR = Runs great, logs both play time and achievements but will lock up my PC about 30 seconds after exiting the game and needs rebooting.

Please fix the hands alignment on Index, they look wrong and it¡s hard to play that way. I trid it for a few minutes and had to switch to my Quest 3 via VD in order to play.

It's perfect with the Oculus controllers. Absolutely loving the game, by the way, great puzzles atmosphere and design.

Finally found out why I couldn't run on my Pimax Crystal and Vive Pro 2. I had to turn off Quad Views Foveated Rendering Support in the SteamVR OpenXR settings (which is used for other games like DCS). Kind of weird because once I turned this off in SteamVR, it now not only works with SteamVR, but it also works in pure OpenXR mode too. It was tough to find this issue given I don't have this problem with any other game, but it worked, so that's good.

I can confirm. It works well with Reverb G2 now. I had to disable OpenXR toolkit companion app and run the game directly via "Windows mixed reality portal" + "OpenXR Tools for mixed reality" NOT through streamVR and it works. Great game BTW, worth the price.

with Crystal it only works fine if I disable OpenXR Toolkit, but I can't use reshade or openxr toolkit so basically I can't use anything.

Why not OpenVR as well?

In game hands palm is positioned over the TRIGGER of the controller NOT the grip. THIS IS MORONIC HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS MISTAKE?!?

I can confirm this. Reverb G2 works very fine with 'WMR'+'OpenXR' (without Steam). But there are 1 disadvantage. With WMR/OpenXR you cant configure the controllers. In my case my deadzone is not correctly (moves a little bit to left in center position when you set smooth turn in the options). Thats not so fine and its not funny to play.

Not sure if this belongs here but there's a couple bugs in the final puzzle. I've had it a couple times where I wasn't allowed to move a piece that was able to move. Example: See Timestamp here

Solved my performance issues and stuttering. Steam, for some odd reason, had the HTC Vive Pro 2 VR locked to 5Kx5K. Setting it to auto solved all my FPS and jitter issues.

Explains why my rtx 4090 was lagging down to 24 FPS

How did you disable openxr toolkit?

I unchecked the box for The7thGuestVR in the OpenXR Toolkit app.

Ok. I found my SOLUTION for "FATAL ERROR" message when you try to run the game "The 7th Guest" steam version. I receive this message trying to play it with my laptop and Meta Quest 3, with SteamVR, Virtual Desktop and AirLink. SOLUTION: unistall in Steam the LIV app. Now I can run the game with the 3 methods, but better for me without jitter is running game with AirLink + SteamVR. I hope it can help to other guests in the future. Regards
