Moving house loses your furniture if you don't sell it

I got married and moved into another house with my spouse and opted not to sell off my furniture but to keep it, however in the new house there's only other furniture there and mine isn't in my inventory. If I want to buy back my old furniture I have to pay full price for it again. Am I not playing the right way?
