"Teenagers" (16-20) cannot have a romantic relationship nor be attracted to another

Whilst I haven't been able to confirm myself yet (or confirm from official sources), a number of sites (search “inZOI life stages”) are reporting that a “teenager” is 16 to 20.

The age of consent is 16 in Korea, the UK and many other places, so I find it very strange that someone of this age cannot have a romantic relationship nor be attracted to another.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in ages for this game since part of it is to balance out how long characters exist in each stage.

Yeah that's too bad, Sims has teen relationships. That's a pretty big part of being a teenager. Totally fine if they want to lock them down so teens can only date each other (or young adults if one ages) but yeah, there really seems to be not much to do with a character until they get to the young adult stage.

However in the game they've used two (English) terms that are very similar in meaning to describe two different age groups:
Adolescent - somebody who is in the transitional stage between childhood and adulthood (defined as 10 to 19 by the World Health Organisation).
Teenager - 13 to 19
The fact that adolescent comes before teenager in inZOI implies that teenager is the later part of the period that they both describe.

Yeah teenagers should be able to date each other not adults. Leave that for the Epsteins of the world and their best friends.

a teenage is one with teen on the end of their number, in this case 13 to 19. never heard of twen-teen before or twenty-first-teen either.

anything before that is a child/pre-pubescent child, anything after that is an adult.

i know there will be a mod out there that will eliminate that restriction. Teenagers do get involved in sexual activity every bit as much as adults. teenage pregnancies in Europe are a big problem. it's a fact of life.

surely there is some kind of middle ground for teenagers to express their desire for romance but in a safe way?

That's a LOT less common in Asia, and this game is coming out of Korea.

I think it's fine for teens to just hang out as friends. It always got annoying when one teen would become an adult and their dating partner didn't in Sims. I'm more than okay with not having those issues in InZOI. Teens should focus on raising stats.

I guess the teenager in the game is 13-18

That's the real world definition, not the in game definition. By real world definition adolescent, teenager and young adult all include the age range 18 and 19, yet they are different ages groups within the game.

It's Korea, pretty sure they should be stuck studying first for the Suneung before doing something silly like "free-time" and "social life". Oh wait - that shouldn't include that LA map then!
