Why only hetero????
Why does the game only have hetero relationships? Yes, the game gives you the opportunity to create an asexual character or create a non-binary character or create a gay/bi, etc. This is very nice, thank you for adding this feature to the character creator. But this feature exists ONLY in the creator, in the game itself, all NPCs and non-player families are hetero characters. That is, if I create a gay character, there is not a single male NPC who would also like men. The situation with non-binary characters is EVEN worse, non-binary characters do NOT attract ANYONE romantically. Why? And most importantly, why did you do this? For a game in which a significant part is based on characters and their relationships, this is a very sad situation.

Maybe someone knows codes or loopholes on how to fix this? My first thought was to just walk around the city and edit families in the creator, but the game does not allow editing existing families. My second idea was to populate the city with more diverse characters myself, but it's quite long and I'm afraid that I'll overload the save with characters, which will make the game sag even more. Plus, none of this will fix the problem that random NPCs in the city are still only hetero characters, and I meet random NPCs in the city more often than real families.

I'm also now wondering how the gender/orientation of a character not created in the creator, but born during the game, is determined. Will they all also be hetero by default? Is there no chance to recognize yourself as a non-b person or as a gay?

Yeah, they need to fix this. I thought things were going fine, allegedly my female Zoi was building romance with another female Zoi and as soon as I made a serious move, she litterally ran away...I was like 'huh'. Then it happened again. Like, it's not that hard. Make the Zoi neutral by default and defined by character interactions. I have started popping my own queer NPCs in from the manage family thing. Which is not intuitive and requires a ton of work around. Its dampened my excitement for the game. And I was really enjoying it.

The wild thing is when Youtuber MadMorph played an early early build of the game several months back, he played a woman dating another woman. So how did the programing change so drasitically leading up to release?

I think I'm going to try the same method. Somewhere in this very confusing family editing, I can work hard and create several new families, and then swap them with the existing ones. But yes, it takes a decent amount of time to rebuild at least 3-4 families, especially considering all the long loading times and so on. However, this does not solve the problem with NPCs wandering around the city. Perhaps for a comfortable game I will have to wait until this is fixed or create fixed saves and always start the game with pre-prepared fixed saves
Well, or in extreme cases, we will have to rely on the creators of mods

Thank you very much for the advice to try editing families

To actually answer your question, all the default ZOIs are heterosexual by default. If you want, you can change to the ZOI you want to your character to have a same-sex relationship with and change them to attracted to the same gender, or do what I did and create two gay zois, and have them meet and fall in love.

I don't understand how people say they're healing/wholesome when there's no gay/lesbian characters? So they're homophobic? And they want to play Hitler but with gays?

sheesh whats with ppl hating on the dude. he has a valid point.
its a single player game after-all, excluding him is just mean and uncalled for.

you're all just repeating the exact same cycle of resentment that got you into this forced DEI mess in the first place.

if the function doesn't work then its broken.

try this OP, create 2 gay characters and let them flirt, and then delete all the households on the map and set the population to high in the city edits and see if something changes.

the game is broken at the moment, there are allot of bugs and things that doesn't work at the moment. best to inform the support team at their site to fix it in the next update.

or at least add the option to control the population sexuality in the city edits.

This is listed as a known problem under the "known issues" thread up at the top, so thankfully it seems they do plan on fixing it. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later

Go to bluesky and see who the hateful ones actually are, asking to kill and burn...

Nonsense! Trying to make an extra buck and believeing the lefts false narrative that the yelling activists would buy games is what brought this mess onto gaming. But now, with the funding dried up thx to USAID having been exposed, studios are closing left and right and slowly have to make a profit again...

Which is hilarious because all these loser homophobes think it's on purpose. Can't wait to see them cry like children when they fix the bug.

Actually in the current set up of the game, you can't control a character not in some sort of household lot and I wanted the experience of random chance not preset intent to pair.

Zoi who are 'not in city' (basically fillers for the city population) are not controllable (at least not yet) thereby can't be accessed to change. I mean there's a way too do it, it's an annoying long work around in manage families tho under the current build. With all the things you can change via sliders, including crime, a random chance of queerness should be a thing and as I understand it, the devs fully intend it to be a thing. But right now, it's broken.

I just want to naturally play the game and be surprised, meet Zoi while my Zoi is working and hanging out in the city and doing other game progression things to earn meow money and have the same random chance and options of meeting another Zoi I could romance rather I am a hetero or homosexual character is all, without making them all myself in controllable households. Part of the fun of the game is friendships and romance you build with the random Zoi in the world and half of that is cut off without me making a bunch of my own NPCs. Which I am glad the game allows to be made, but its not great for just being able to get into playing and not worrying about it.

But I know they want to fix it, it just doesn't make it very fun to play at the moment.
