The game is not made by a western developer. But for people in the US for example it's a very important topic. To have the freedom to be who you want to be.

So if they are selling it to people in the west, they should also look at what people find important in those places, such as the need for fair representation.

What I care about is , is this a battleground for the culture war which will have a toxic as hell atmosphere in the community section that I won't want to engage with.
