RTX 4090 — “Out of video memory” crash during shader compilation
Hi everyone. I’m currently unable to launch inZOI due to a crash that occurs during the shader compilation stage (around 20–30% progress). I get this error every time:

“Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory…”

This is strange because I’m running a high-end system, and this shouldn’t be an issue.

🖥️ My system specs:
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090 (24 GB VRAM)

CPU: Intel Core i9-13900KF

RAM: 64 GB DDR5

OS: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit

Driver: Game Ready 572.83 (March 18, 2025)

✅ What I’ve already tried:
Lowered monitor resolution to 1080p

Added launch parameters -windowed -resx=1280 -resy=720

Disabled Steam & NVIDIA overlays

Performed a clean reinstall of GPU drivers

Verified integrity of game files

Deleted Unreal Engine cache & shadercache

Set power plan to “High Performance”

Closed all background apps

Still crashes during shader optimization. I suspect it’s either a bug in the Unreal Engine 5.4 build used or a VRAM allocation issue specific to 40-series GPUs.

Anyone else with a 4090 or similar setup experiencing this?

Would appreciate feedback from other players or devs. Let me know if I can provide logs or additional info. Thanks!

I see you tried setting your Power Plan to "High Performance"

Try the exact contrary : Choose Best power efficiency (power saving mode)
This game runs on UE5, and UE5 causes that kind of issue with Nvidia 40 series GPUs and 13th generation CPUs like yours. It tends to make the system unstable. This setting tends to calm your PC down as needed in that situation.

Please try this and tell me if it solves anything
(it did for me on several other games)

That would be this debacle most likely:

i9 13th gen. I have a 13900KS and it does that too. I know you get the VRAM memory issue message but it's because of the CPU. 13th gen Intel CPUs are defective. Use XTU to undervolt your CPU. I lowered my ratio from X60 to X58 and it fixed the issue.

experiencing it with an rx 9070 xt currently, hope it gets fixed!

edit: fixed doing the page file solution!

This worked for me - underclocked from 57x to 55x and now it's running. Thanks!!!
Probably lost connection to the servers. It's getting pounded and jackhammered at the moment.

Same issue here 4070 TI Super 16 gig.
Same issue here
RTX 4090 with 13900K

Dear Creators,
We’d like to provide an update on the crash issues reported by some players

Based on community feedback and inquiries submitted through our Support Page, we’ve identified a pattern of crashes under the following environments:

* Systems with Intel 13th and 14th Gen CPUs
* Systems using NVIDIA RTX 40 series GPUs

We’re carefully reviewing all reported cases while continuing our efforts to address the issue.
Understanding the impact on your play experience, we're treating every report with the attention it deserves.
Your patience and continued support mean a great deal to us, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

This worked for me. i7-13700K, lowered from 54x to 52x.
Works fine on my 4080 super, maybe it’s just the 4090 series which has a driver issue?

[EN] I solved the problem, just in the INTEL application you need to reduce the processor voltage, in my case from x58 coefficient, to 50x (you can try to gradually reduce one indicator and test, for example, from 58x to 56x by 2 units from your processor, as the guys wrote above), and the game started normally, it turns out we are slightly reducing the processor power, I had this problem with the game RDR2 earlier, but as I understand it has already been fixed. My processor is i9-13900k

I got 14th gen i7 cpu and 4080s i have no problems it’s not the cpu unless you haven’t updated the bios to get the 0x12B microcode otherwise who knows what issues you have and your cpu is guaranteed to fail eventually

I'll check about the BIOS, but this problem affects many people who have i9 - 13th and 14th generation Intel processors, in combination with RTX 40th and 50th generation, you have i7, I think you shouldn't have any problems.

If you encounter this problem, simply reduce the processor value by 2 units and the game will start without problems.

I didn't do anything clever with my processor (I didn't overclock it, as fools and fanatics do), the main thing is not to increase the voltage value, you can decrease it, this will actually make the processor's work easier.

Wow, this worked for me on Silent Hill 2. Great call.
