Obvious review manipulation
Why do companies do this? Every time I see a flood of fake reviews on a title it just turns me off of it entirely.

Are you looking to buy the game? I’m curious what your post goal is here? I too dislike fake reviews but more so towards a lot of the curators (paid influencers) who write reviews, because let me tell you they’ve scammed me into thinking games are so polished and meets all my expectations when they clearly didn’t.

I too was put off by the abundance of influencers Krafton gifted keys to. But since this is a game that I was really interested in I went ahead and used Valve’s kind return policy to test it out. While I do have some mechanic issues with the game, I’m having a blast and I don’t regret supporting them during early access. I can’t wait to see how this game grows.

Like someone said some of these are most likely console players with new accounts and many will have zero levels. I’ve seen them pop up in games like FFVII Rebirth for example to share their pros and cons with the game as a console user, as Steam is a big outlet for them to do so who don’t use social media for example.

I’m more wary of curators and the likes but that’s just my personal sour experience with them being freeloading game collectors.

Definitely agree with you in terms of steam curators. Though the Console to PC argument just doesn't hold water to me.

It would be like stating, half of the recent review, on page one, were people who just bought a gaming PC for this one title, as it isn't exactly gonna run on just any old machine.

There is gonna be some assumption here, but reasonable assumptions.....

I can see that happening for some, though the age range for console players leans younger... the sims 2/3/4 are old games now, and "Free to play" on PC.... kinda suggesting that these individuals that were hardcore sims fans.... on console... never had a steam account... so... never game'd on PC..... bought a PC for this title and made a steam account for the very first time....

I can see that for a very few... but half the page? brand new steam accounts? This is silly.

Oh wait, I just realized you hadn't bought the game, thought you were like me and had returned it, lol

My bad, I see why you can't leave a review now.

Yeah, I'm super wary of Early Access titles these days, but seeing clips did interest me, and its good seeing EA/sims getting some competition lately

I mean, I did see a fair amount of Sims 4 players on their forums saying they were going to save up for a PC just for this game, so it's not much of a stretch.

From what I've always heard, a good chunk of Sims 4 players only really play the one game, which is why I proposed them making a Steam account just for this game.

All in all it could just be a mix of factors, people coming from console (which I find unlikely personally), people coming from EA's personal app to play Inzoi, and people just picking it up at random because influencers influence apparently.

And maybe publishers doing some things, but again I'm skeptical on it. It's not out of the question, but were it to be confirmed would cause outrage. Especially with the fanatics that worship the ground the Sims devs walk on, they'd light into this game the first chance they get.

Before anyone gets on my case about the Sims, I played 4 for years, I've realized it's not my thing, it's fine for people to enjoy it, just as it's fine to not like it. I'm just really critical of Electronic Arts and its associates because they're incredibly anti-consumer across the board.

I mean there are console/mobile players who never even played a single game on PC, and some even just buy the Steam Deck to get a feel for it. You can’t just say they don’t exactly exist when they clearly do.

Also remember there are many users from other parts of the world who can’t afford a PC neither, it’s why console gaming is easier especially when one can snag a console second hand at lesser price. I know of players who expanded to the Steam Deck, Rog Ally, Legion Go etc because some games just didn’t make it to console, but they still heavily played console while only owning very few Steam game titles in their account.

Half the page of reviews again could be keys that were given to users that’s not marked as a curator also, we’ll never know, it’s just your own speculations at this point. Companies do give keys out in discords too and many reviewers can keep “given for free” unchecked in their reviews if they so choose.

In the end all users will have to pick out what to believe in these reviews, I personally just try to avoid all the curators and influencers views on them though. I also check timed played on the review pages. I don’t even check individual player profiles majority of the times when deciding on a game. When it’s a game I really want though, I buy and put up my 2hr Valve demo timer.

I also upgraded my PC specs and got my first OLED monitor just for InZoi… so yes people will go through some changes and lengths for a fun time. There is first time for many remember that. This is the first time real competition has happened to The Sims games.

I’ve also seen many say they’ve purchased a PC for the first time just for Inzoi before it was released in preparation. I upgraded my specs last minute as I was really scared of investing so much money on a game I’ve been anticipating since they announce it due to possible disappointments with it being in early access.

I too have trust issues with EA and have stopped playing S4 for a bit now, also guilty of buying into their dlc discount sales like a typical consumer. I’m enjoying my time with inZoi and can say it’s been a better experience for me vs the sims base game releases.
I find it wild, that in the days of one third of all engagement on twitter/x being bots, that you two find it so unlikely steam reviews are manipulated. Especially considering Steam itself started talking about steps its taking to combat this problem just 6 months ago....

Respectfully, I don't know what I'm looking at.

Oh yeah, i had to get an upgrade so I could play MH Wilds, so I get it, for sure.

Yeah I've been guilty of it too, less so on Sims 4 than just EA's franchises in general, I could not resist buying Sims 3 expansions on sale, Sims 1 & 2 bundle, and MySims cozy bundle. Do I regret buying any of those? Absolutely not, but I do regret giving EA more of my money.

I'll throw my money at them as soon as they make a proper PvZ sequel too. Even better if they manage to revitalize Garden Warfare! :steammocking:
Obzor, until recently, was one of the steam review manipulation order pages.

Its shut down now, so no risk in sharing it. You are looking at an orders list, its all listed in rub, because its VPNing regional prices in rub are a fraction of the cost, and why some companies have EXETREMELY LOW (fractions of the cost of the product elsewhere) regional prices in some places. So this can be done on the cheap.

I’m discussing the fact that you don’t think console players can move to PC gaming for the first time ever.

Review manipulation is everywhere including large companies like Amazon such as vine user reviews, you just can’t avoid them. So all I can say to you is buy it, test it and keep or refund it much like the user above, Monkey did.

If you are this passionate about the fake accounts, report them to Valve directly then. Going on the forums to discuss it is not going to change your interest in the game anyways, it just seems like you dislike it from your tone to begin with.

I’ve given you my personal real view on it. I haven’t written a full review on it yet in the Steam page as I want to keep playing for longer than 30hr to get a real feel for it, and also waiting for their next month’s update.

This is me, slightly up the page:
"but seeing clips did interest me, and its good seeing EA/sims getting some competition lately"

I'm not negative about the title, I am happy to see Electronic Arts have a competitor. Though when review manipulation happens, its not by accident. It may be wide spread, but its not a "I must do this to compete in the market place" situation.

Where it happens, it should be called out. I see it happening here. I call it out. I really really wish it wasn't the case. Yeah, I'll likely not be buying InZOI, and its because I believe somewhere in the line, dev-to-marketing, they engaged in review manipulation.

I would suggest to you and everyone not buy products on Amazon that fake their reviews as well lol.

Slightly sidebar....
You can paste a URL in fakespot and it'll yank those reviews out for you from amazon..

Didn’t need the sidebar, I’m very well aware of Amazon and their shady business with sellers. But thanks?

Again, you calling out the fake reviews is not going to change my mind personally, nor will Krafton mass wipe those reviews you personally found to be fake.

This is no different than anti-AI calling this game out. It is what it is, the world will keep turning and we will all do what we want with our own money.

Boycott it all you want but your own thread manipulation will not work here unfortunately, maybe try EA’s forums.

Off-topic review activity is a mechanic for developer use.
E.G. a title gets review bombed for some silly culture war stuff, the developer will ask steam to activate the off-topic for date range XX-XX-XXXX to XX-XX-XXXX, steam will then make that range of dates not count towards the total reviews.

This mechanic is not in use anywhere else, so it will not effect any result here.
Origineel geplaatst door Jenaverse:

The sidebar was just a link to a tool to remove AI generated reviews... not a statement they exist.

Why you taking this so personally?

I'm not here to change your mind personally. You are just one stranger on internet.

Obviously Krafton won't mass wipe fake reviews, that would be a lose/lose, you lower your score, and have to admit you, or some entity you hired, manipulated reception.

This is very different than calling out AI usage in development. Using AI tools to develop your games/products is not manipulating your audience, its just using tools to make something you are making. Someone can like or dislike your hammer, doesn't mean you are hitting them with it.

Don't get so invested in what I'm doing if you find it upsetting. You can say what I'm saying is manipulation if you want, but I was not PAID for this opinion. It is genuine.
