So cheap PC cam, vm with cracked IOS or does the IOS need to run where the game runs? I mean you can make the vm act like an usb connected iphone.

I suspect it's using the 3D scanning hardware that's been built into iPhones for a few years now, but relatively rare on other platforms (although I once used an Android phone from Sony about half a decade ago that had it too, possibly earlier than Apple).

In other words: The developers chose the path of least resistance with this, since 3D scanning hardware is standard on iOS and rare on Android. A simple webcam would not suffice. Photogrammetry (reconstructing 3D meshes and textures from 2D image data) would be an alternative that works with any digital camera, but is less accurate and more finicky.
