DLCs worth it?
Have the vanilla game, and heard a lot of stories about it (both good and bad). So I was wondering if the DLCs are worth the price? Or simply another cash grab?

I liked the big cheese as it bought a new item for trading and another use for milk in early game. The new one just come out i'm not so sure on. The Asylum doesnt really do much for me. Whether you like the DLC's will really depend on how you play the game. I don't bother so much with discrediting people, which is what the Asylum aims to make you start doing more from what I have gathered so far on my play through.

As with Tropico 4, the DLCs feature a new costume, a new building, and a new mission that features said building. I buy them mostly for the mission, as I don't play around with costumes. The effects of the new buildings can vary, and adds another option for your city planning at best.

I've covered every Tropico mission since Tropico 3 on my YouTube channel, and I've least enjoyed Tropico 5. The pace of the game is too slow for my liking. Sure, it's a bit faster to get economy running, but the movement of workers is too slow. The game really needs a triple speed option like T3 and T4.

I mention this now because the DLCs are a bit painful to play with the game speed. Both are relatively difficult compared to the base campaign. Big Cheese is stuck in Colonial Era, forcing you to get lots of mandate extensions. Mad World forces you to use Discredit, which is insanely expensive ($5000 EACH citizen, and you have to do it 50 times), which means you need a very strong economy, which takes a long time to build up.

Though I like Tropico, I wasn't impressed T5's release, campaign and the DLCs. They're nice to top off your T5 exprience, but I don't think they're great DLC content, given the short length of the original campaign. What I'd like to see are DLC campaigns.

DLC campaigns is definitely what we need. I'd pay up to $20 for a few new campaigns, few more little missions and new buildings. 4$ every 2 months is cheap, in my opinion, but doesn't add much to the game. I only wish we could add the new buildings to our existing saved cities (cheese factory and asylum can't be added in saved cities).

I immensely enjoy Tropico 5. It's the slow pace I like the most. Closest to SimCity these days... I only wish we could take out the wars, rebels and dictatorship out of the game, then we would have a great SimIslandCity! :P

I just completed the latest "Mad World" miassion and found it quite enjoyable. It is nice to have new missions to complete as i have gone through the original campain 3 times now. I am not really a sandbox player so therefore these extra missions keep me playing the game.

I just finished as well (editing the video as I speak). I rather enjoyed it too, but mostly because this was the first time I built an economic powerhouse of a city before finishing the mission -- something which, ironically, the campaign doesn't really encourage.

No. You're getting shafted on the DLC as usual, paying 3 euro for a single building.
Buy them on a deep discount when there are 5 or more out, then you will see an actual difference and new content, if you buy it now the game won't be any different and you will be left scratching your head.

You make good points all around. Tropico 5 is one step forward and two steps backward and the concept of DLCs hasn't changed at all from Tropico 4 (costume, building, mission). Probably the worst thing about Tropico 5 is how the devs abandoned the community. No map editor, no challenge editor, no missions from players, etc.. They would have been unstoppable if they had embraced the community more. Because they embraced the community with Tropico 4, they created a strong demand for Tropico 5 then BOOM... all that collaboration disappeared.

If they were smart they would have released a challenge editor and map editor then created a series of competitions to create the best missions. They would have then taken all those missions and put an enhanced version of them into a "Best Of..." DLC that they could have sold for $9.99 and gotten rave reviews for. Hopefully they get it right with Tropico 6.

I used to be first in line for these DLCs with Tropico 4 because I was invested in the game (creating challenges, playing fan-made challenges, collaborating with other users on cool maps, etc.). Now I wait until a sale. The urgency of getting it on day 1 is gone.

I will wait for the inevitable sale. I have all the Tropico 4 DLC but I didn't pay full price for any of them. I got the Big Cheese DLC for preordering. It was fun but I don't know if any of their DLC are worth more than 99 cents.

So true, I regreat buying this madness DLC, the asylum is absolutely useless. If they'll fill the game with DLC's, they could make it worth, at least.

^ My point exactly.
DLCs, sure, bring them on.
But these are worthless, 1 building? I hope their sales will indicate what I think about that.

Oh yeah totally... Because paying 5 dollars every month for a new building and scenario is a good deal

No, you have to wait 2 months to avail of that amazing "deal".

I only buy Tropico DLCs when they're 70% off or more. Anything else is frankly insulting.

Yes, thats the only way.

Also, how stupid are the costumes anyway? Noone would care if you only had one standard Che-Guevara-like-looking dictator and that would be it.
