So, you want to go from consciption to professional Army? *Solved Maybe*
Ok, so the 1st time I tried this I had 8 tank base's and 16 basic base's 8 guard towers.

Results? Had a Haappiness of 85%, I hit the Edict, it droped to 38% within moments. A small time later, my military started a coup, wiped me out.

Take 2, 4 tank base's, 2 basic base and 2 guard towers. Results? Happiness aty 76%, dropped to 37% within moments. A small time later, my military started a coup, wiped me out.

Take 3 last night, at 10:30 PM I might add!! One hour past my bed time!! 2 Tank bases's and 2 Basic base's. Reulsts? Happiness at 86%, within moments I dropped to 37%, A small time later my military started a coup, wiped me out.

The last try I pre built 3 high schools and imported workers.

What am I missing here?

Well, it is an option, it should be doable, yes? As for what benifits, as far as I can tell 0! But that is beside the point, I want to make it work!!

lol well i'm not sure, but you will figure it out.

In my last game (sandbox), I selected "Professional Army" as soon as I could based on my Constitutional choice. Leaving colonial to great war era, my happiness was low (below 45%) but I immediately started building different buildings to raise it (police station, clinic, restaurant, etc.) and eventually drove it up to >60%. Fortunately, I was able to build the buildings fast enough to get above 50% before the next election cycle which kept me in office and my army never revolted.

For what it's worth my "professional army" was completely annihilated by a like-size force of invading soviets some years later. It didn't make alot of sense to me because I had numbers and also the defensive towers on my side. So I tend to also be rather doubtful regarding the benefits of having a "professional army".

In my own experience a professional army has never been a problem for me. It's usually the option I choose when it's available.

You would think it would be worth more. So, start off as pro works better, I will try that tonight and see what happens. :)

The biggest thing here is that the constitution selections have huge impacts on faction support. Even more so when said faction has a large number of supporters. Im guessing the Militarists faction does not like being forced to use a professional army. I do know that conscription and right to bear arms increases their support as well as crushing rebels.
Syfusion May 28, 2014 @ 7:03am
Another great example is with the religious faction. These guys absolutely hate the visa program ammendment so much that in my game their support for me is like 17% with just that ammendment.

From what ive seen, professional army is glitched currently, i switched my soldiers over to conscription and they perform twice as effectivly. so for now keep it on conscription until the game gets patched.

I was hoping it was a bug!! Thanks, just seems weird to have this EDICT to cause such an uproar.

It's pretty simple in terms of why people won't work on your military bases - Really bad job quality paired with educated requirements (depending on your constitution)

Put higher budgets on your military buildings if you really need them - Just be aware that people will move from other educated jobs like the supermarket and cathedrals.

well like others have said a proff army does no better than concription, they do the same damage and have the same health.

that being said i have a feeling the drop is due to mass firing(resulting in unrest), when you change the edit, you fire every person in that field and this could also cause mass unemploment as a result 40+15to16 normaly unemployed (55), so by size your looking at 40ish people being fired at once. one way around this could be to build several plantations as there cheap and "useful" to soak those people, you could also try removing some of your army (fire and ban the slot) from some bases to lower the impact when you make the swap

remember losing there jobs means they cant live in a house, get job satafaction, and healthcare/food if you use these edicts

Did you even read the post? Why would you offer that advice? I can have 20 base's filled with workers mate, with all the NEEDED buildings, and it still drops!! Adding frigging more buildings that I already have would not help.

Please take the time to understand the issue being discussed before offering extremly bad advice.

Thanks Ethonal, that made a lot of sense, I suspect you solved my issue, bug or not!!

For starter this is one of the game problem with the constitution.
No matter when you switch to professional army you will always have too few educated tropicans.
And those who were soldiers will now be without a job.

No job leading to drop in everything and people get angry
Mister Palm Tree May 28, 2014 @ 7:48am
You could try the post colonial militery aproach in which you play the colonial stage purely economically. and pay out the king. The select profesional army before building a militery. Things can only go up from 0
There will always be problems.
