Tropico 5
READ FIRST! Tropico 5 requires a DirectX 11 graphics card!
PLEASE CHECK IF YOUR SYSTEM MEETS THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BEFORE PURCHASING THE GAME OR REPORTING ISSUES!

DirectX 11 support is needed at hardware level, which is why the minimum requirements list graphics cards that have specifically been tested and confirmed to run Tropico 5. For some models (Radeon 4000 series), hardware level 10.1 does suffice, for some others, it doesn't. It also heavily depends on the driver - please make sure you're running the very latest driver available from your graphics card manufacturer if you're experiencing graphical errors and corruption.

If your graphics card does not support the required hardware features, the game may not start at all or display graphical errors.

Having DirectX 11 software installed is no guarantee that your graphics card meets the minimum system requirements. Updated Windows versions which meet the game requirements (Vista SP2 and above) are running DirectX 11 in software.

This is the reason for listing specific graphics card models in the minimum requirements:

- Nvidia GeForce 400 series or higher
- AMD Radeon HD 4000 series or higher
- Intel HD 4000 series or higher

There are no plans to add support for older graphics cards. The game and engine were redesigned from scratch as was requested by many players. The technical modernization calls for new hardware as with many new games. Tropico 5 ist not an exception. The game in its current form would not have been possible on deprecated DirectX 9 hardware and this does not affect visual quality only.

Hi Guys,
I have a question, I bought Tropico 5 and installed it and it also said the DirectX 11 error, I looked up what version I have installed and which one I can use and it both said 11. My graphics card is a Radeon HD 6470M, can my graphics card not run tropico 5?

That card should be compatible. You should force the use of your AMD card vai the CCC and that should fix it

Thanks, I have the CCC now, but for some reason it still gives me the error when I put it on high performance.. :/

If you have i5 2nd gen processor with HD 3000 (DirectX 10.1) the game will start! It dont look prity but on auto settings im able to actuly play with very little lag.
♥♥♥♥ you
The Linux version works with my NVIDIA Geforce GTX 280 and that is DirectX10.

Uhhhhhh Linux doesn't have DirectX, that's OpenGL

Windows uses DX11 and requires the hardware to support DX11 since that's the renderer being used

But the linux version still requires certain stuff to be supported by the hardware whether you want to call that DirectX XXX support, Direct3D Feature Levels, OpenGL XXX support or even a "certain set of opengl extensions"-support really doesn't matter. Looking at the required hardware specs I'd say you will need a OpenGL 4.0 capable graphics card which is the same as saying you need a DirectX11 capable graphics card. Ofcourse there is the odd card that had experimental support for some of the OpenGL 4.0 stuff and those might work as well (and I guess he found one of those in the GTX 280).

Linux version works on DX10-compatible GPUs while windows version not.

Some DX10 cards do work on Windows though...

I meant that windows version of Tropico 5 will not work on that GPUs.
Yes, and I meant that some DX10 cards do seem to work. You can search this thread for at least one card that has been reported working. That is, in some cases only DX10.1 support is needed. One of those cards is the GT330M. Which is understandable because it has been an exception for a lot of games, because the Mid 2010 macbook was sold with a GT330M ;)

So you basically need a card that is D3D11 compliant, but in case you don't, but do have a D3D10.1 compliant card, then it is worth a shot to just launch the game and see if it works. You will ofc. still need the DirectX 11 software installed, but that is a whole different thing :)

Oh, and yeah, it might work, but it probably won't be smooth playing. But if it does, well great :) (and if it runs near-smooth you could try different driver versions to see if that helps a bit).

*edit* and a final note: this is obviously not supported (as you can tell from the store page) so Kalypso/Haemimont Games won't support you if you run in to problems trying to get the game to work on hardware that does not meet the minimum hardware requirerement.
