PLEASE CHECK IF YOUR SYSTEM MEETS THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BEFORE PURCHASING THE GAME OR REPORTING ISSUES!

DirectX 11 support is needed at hardware level, which is why the minimum requirements list graphics cards that have specifically been tested and confirmed to run Tropico 5. For some models (Radeon 4000 series), hardware level 10.1 does suffice, for some others, it doesn't. It also heavily depends on the driver - please make sure you're running the very latest driver available from your graphics card manufacturer if you're experiencing graphical errors and corruption.

If your graphics card does not support the required hardware features, the game may not start at all or display graphical errors.

Having DirectX 11 software installed is no guarantee that your graphics card meets the minimum system requirements. Updated Windows versions which meet the game requirements (Vista SP2 and above) are running DirectX 11 in software.

This is the reason for listing specific graphics card models in the minimum requirements:

- Nvidia GeForce 400 series or higher
- AMD Radeon HD 4000 series or higher
- Intel HD 4000 series or higher

There are no plans to add support for older graphics cards. The game and engine were redesigned from scratch as was requested by many players. The technical modernization calls for new hardware as with many new games. Tropico 5 ist not an exception. The game in its current form would not have been possible on deprecated DirectX 9 hardware and this does not affect visual quality only.

Those specs look like you're on a laptop.

If you are, laptop video cards cannot be upgraded. You'd have to buy a new laptop

If you are in a desktop PC and if it is possible to upgrade the video card

Note you should check if your system is upgradable even on a desktop. Many manufacturers (yours appears to be a Toshiba) extremely limit upgradability. Check your manual to see if you can even put in a video card.

Is there anyway I can sell my code to the game? I bought the code on Amazon and I have already downloaded it, but haven't gotten it to start it because of the graphics card. If not, is it still possible to use the same game code if I got another labtop? I appreciate your help.

Any game u download via steam, u can play on any pc/laptop (if ofc it's hard- and softwarecompatible), it's all connected to your account;) Same with games u got on steam that need a second registration, account dependant. So yes you'll be able to play it on another laptop, just don't forget your account name and password like how I lost an account in the past:)

Note both Steam and Amazon have no refund policies on digital games. You can 'ask' Amazon but the likely hood of a refund is almost zero. It doesn't hurt to ask, asking is free! But if you don't get one, just don't be surprised. Just keep your expectations in line with what is likely going to happen.

Games on STeam are bound to your library. You can't sell/trade/gift/etc the game once its bound. However this does mean if you get a DX11 compliant computer in the future, you can fire up steam, download Tropico 5 and play it. Just don't forget your Steam username/password!

Off topic stuf:

So just for my own 2 cents on things. Doing PC gaming on a laptop is 'possible' but myself I don't generally recommend it. Either you're stuck with Intel video cards which are 'better than before' but that's like saying 'getting stabbed in the eye is so much better then when they use to pull out our intestines by hand'. Or you have to spend a BOAT load of money on a "Gaming Laptop" to get what amounts to average gaming performance, and the laptop will weigh so much, your chiropractor will be making boat payments on your frequent visits.

I generally recommend that instead of spending a bazillion bucks on a 'gaming' laptop. THat you cna split the budget between a decent desktop computer and a moderately priced laptop. Your laptop you can use for portability when necessary and it's good enough for your basic day to day stuff. For your desktop you can get a moderately priced computer with again a moderately priced video card. And the performance on that desktop will likely be a lot better than most laptop PCs even some 'gaming' ones.

A bit off topic. I don't know what your uses are for your laptop in general. But if you decide to upgrade, maybe consider what I discussed above.

It's unfortunate you can't play the game. HOpefully the above advice can be helpful to you.

Hey mate, you seem like the guy to approach about this, I've been scrolling forums for 2 days now looking for a solution to this issue.

When I start the game it first just appeared with a whitescreen and would crash, later it then started appearing with a message saying directx 11 is required, but I know for absolute certain that my specs are sufficient to the minimum requirements.

At first glance that's the only thing that stands out as a potential problem is your drivers are out of date

Given your graphical issues I'd suggest a 'clean' driver install which requires

1) Uninstall your existing drivers
2) REBOOT
3) Install the latest WHQL drivers from Nvidia
4) REBOOT

Thanks again for all the help! As I said before, I don't play many PC games, so I am out of touch to what I really needed. My labtop is my only computer, but I mostly use it for my business during the day as a Realtor. I also work a 3rd shift job where I have some free time and gaming more then anything else, keeps me awake!

Tropico 4 was one of my favorite games for the xbox 360 and after wating a few video's on Tropico 5, I just had to have it. Since I have my xbox one at home, I don't think I will be getting a desktop computer anytime soon.

My plans now are to find a similar game (maybe one of the previoud Tropico games) to play on my PC and/or buy a cheap xbox 360 and Tropico 5 for that system.

Understandable. Everyone has specific needs and such so I get where you're coming from.

Tropico 4 is available on Steam or other platforms so you can always jump into the classic and play that. You did miss the big summer sale though where it was available at a substantial discount.

If you want you can add games to your Steam Wishlist. Then use www.isthereanydeal.com. It's a site that will import your wishlist and send hyou email alerts when a game goes on sale. It also has historical data on previous sale prices so you can tell if the sale pricd you're seeing is a good deal or not.

Hopefully you can find a game that you can play while giving boring Open House tours, or while burning the midnight oil as well.
