Is "budget" just a renaming of "wages"?
Hi,

In Tropico 4 when I would open up a buildings information panel, I had the ability to change my workers wages. In Tropico 5 I open up a buildings information panel and see "Budget", is that the same thing as wages was in Tropic 4 or does it affect something more than that?

think its just a very simplified mechanic so that it will be easier for console controlers to click a button rather then allowing you to set an exact wage or price of a building useing a slider. pretty lame IMO

yep just seems to me like this is the playstation version of the game no one wants to touch. hate it when they do that. if you own a ps4 your probably not buying tropico 5 for it i bet it wont sell much

Yup - it's just an easier way to manage wealth with citizens . . .

e.g.

Tropico 4 - you have 10 factories and set the wages to say, $20 - then you have to work out how many workers etc are in the factories . . .some are full, others have 2, and then compare them against say the teamsters on $7. Are they as well paid as your military/college graduates that you set at $40, to increase foreign workers?

Tropico 5 - Manually starts on medium budget, average wealth for employees. High budget, means whoever is working there is rich. Set all your buildings to high and immediately your popularity goes up, people come to work and all your citizens are rich.

I think it's just a simplified/more accessible interface.

Not only that but, you could edit how the building would work (cockroach lvl or "great" efficiency), how many employees would work (which was great if you needed to trim people from other areas like education if the building was not at full capacity), who would work there and the salary.

I found it great to manage the expenses on buildings that later becomes not so used by the population once their needs has been sastified like education/religion buildings which later becomes almost a desolated place.

Can you do this in Tropico 5? Is this to streamline?

And... Is there a review out there or the review embargo is still on effect?

streamlined is the new term for 5 as opposed to dumbed down game play, i beleive. whatever makes you happy with the money you spent on it

you can still control how many people work there.

The thing about budget I wonder is that the tutorial seemed to imply the Teamsters would haul more/more effectively if their budget was higher. So does that mean everything works more effectively with a higher budget?

I own 5 but play it for a couple days youll see what i mean when you compare it to memories of playing 1,3, and 4. think i should have waited-- seems like they gutted 4 to add a few un excitng things made compleatly for console controler support

What review embargo? Reviews were available on all major review sites (Gamespot, Game Informer, PC Gamer, Eurogamer, etc.) days before yesterday's release and there are Steam reviews from actual players here so I have no idea how or why you're not seeing any reviews for this game.

its not dumbed down.
in tropico 4, you had wages and those wages compared to carribean average was how they affected the workers.
So you end up having to check carribean average every 30 mins and adjust every single slider in the game, from wages over fees to rent.

What they did was build the carribean avrega into the slider and now you can simply decide if you want to pay average orless or more or much less or much more.

I honestly dont think much was lost, you can still decide how much you want to pay, you just dont have to recheck all the time.

I just dont follow those sites for reviews, maybe thats why I did not see them.

My preferences on game sites like Gamespot and Game Informer are skeptical at best.

Been reading on the steam reviews and most of them seems to agree that, although they prefer Tropico 4 over 5, this does not make it a bad game.

you pressed cntrl for all buildings in previouse games not every building every 30 minutes. haveing carribiean average wage built into the game added more complexity to the game, you didint have to pay them this. but sure haveing less factors and things to do in this i guesse is good or streamlined, i call it dumbed down. basicly only reason there is a button now instead of an exact number slider is so that a console user can mash the button easy.
