The Power plant(s) produce electricity based on how many people work there - And whether or not there's any fuel in stock to power it.

The first power plant needs coal - If you don't have a Coal Mine on the island, you'll have to wait until your docks automatically import it.

well all my coal is going to my dock and none to my power plant :S also it has max workers

Docks will not automattically import coal. You need a trade deal and a ship set to the route to import any item.

Power plants also have a short start up, so even with fuel and people it might take a month to kick over into providing power.

ok ill try to import even tho my power plant has been here for years maybe just a bug but thanks for your suggestion

I can't remember if mines have a "Local Consumption" toggle, but if they do that could be your issue. Your local industries wouldn't be allowed to use anything if it's turned on (They're always off by default)

No need for that, if you are producing coal localy it should end up in your power plant at some time. The transport network can get backlogged badly, and that problem doesn't go away until you can put in a lot of metro stations. It can be really hard to get stuff moving. Make sure you have extra teamsters, one is never going to cut it. Think about 1 per 100 people.

so i demo the old plant and solved everything i guess it was just a bug

my plant was running like a dream i set it up between 2 coal mines and then plonked down a teamsters. I watched what the teamsters did and they moved most of the coal to the plant first. i think the game surly must be designed to feed your island first then export excess. hope it works out for ya

It seems that i've found a way to guarantee that the resources needed by power plants got from mines will all go to the power plant.
First, build a mine to get coal or uranium.
Then build a teamster office and a power plant(nuclear or coal) next to the mine
Wait until the constructions are all finished.
Finally, delete the road between the main city and the three buildings which means that only the three buildings(power plant, teamster office and mine) are connected together with road.
The transporters from the teamster office can only send the resources from the mine to the power plant and the power plant will work continuously as long as the mine is still working.
You can also build some residential building next to the power plant area with road connected to the main city.
Here is a photo of my building plan.

So sad that this method won't work with coal or uranium import.
