Can't Start Sandbox Game
I am trying to start a sandbox game after having completed the campaign. I can choose all of the options for the game, but when I'm done and click "Confirm Settings", it looks like it's loading the game, but then takes me back to the game settings screen. Tried with many different game settings, it never changes. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

I also had this issue, where the Start Game button was replaced by Confirm Settings, which if clicked simply reloaded the settings page. Restarting the game solved the issue.

Hello everybody.
I am sorry to here you are both having this problem and thank you for the heads up.
Feel free to share some more details as well, to get this problem sorted. Important to know would be: OS+bit, CPU, GPU and RAM and what might have changed on your machine. As currently we simply cannot reproduce this problem and therefore we are unable to get this sorted.

hi Andreas Strandfelt.
When using a laptop with an integrated graphic chip, it might be the case that by default this chip will be used, instead of the dedicated graphic cards, which may impact the performance of a game. You can easily change this by doing the following:

Nvidia
Update the graphic card driver from the link below.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us
Then change the settings as described below:
1. Open your Nvidia Control Panel (right-click on desktop, select Nvidia Control Panel)
2. Select "Manage 3D settings"
3. Select "Global Settings". You will find the option "Preferred graphics processor". Please select "High-performance NVIDIA processor" and save the settings.
4. You will have to reboot your system for the changes to take effect.

-cheers

Same problem.
I only get "confirm settings" again rather than "start game".

I am quite certain it has zero to do with hardware.

Hi fleshbits.
Simply restart the game.
If this does not do the trick, do following, before starting the game next time:
  • Right-click on Tropico 5 in your Steam library
  • Select 'Properties'
  • Select 'Check Integrity of Game Cache' from the 'Local Files' tab (this might take several minutes to complete)
-cheers

Unable to start a sandbox game.

OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit
CPU: Intel i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 390
RAM: 16 GB

I finished the first campaign mission and I wanted to play a sandbox game so I clicked New Game > Sandbox > Choose Dynasty. I chose my dynasty I had previously played with in the campaign.
At the game settings page my settings were:

  • Map: Santa Teresa
  • Starting Era: Colonial Era
  • Starting pop: 50
  • Starting $: $10,000
  • Econ difficulty: Low
  • Political difficulty: Low
  • Disasters: Rare
  • Victory by points: None
  • Victory by money: None
  • Victory by construction: Space Program

At the bottom of the settings there were only two options: Confirm Settings or Cancel. When I chose Confirm Settings it went to a loading page for a few seconds and returned my to the game settings page. I clicked confirm settings three more times and the same thing happened. I quit out of the game and reloaded it with the exact same settings. This time it said Start Game and Cancel at the bottom.Clicking Start Game launched the loading screen again and started the game. Each time it was the exact same loading screen.

I've never played a sandbox game in Tropico 5 so I wasn't sure if my game was bugging out until I googled it and found this discussion. Now I know it's expected to display Start Game and not Confirm Settings. It should then start my sandbox game.

Twice I unsuccessfully tried to recreate this bug by launching into the same campaign I played earlier before trying to start a new sandbox game.

At that point I just gave up and started to play. Seems like whatever issue it was resolved itself. I should probably also mention that I just purchased and installed the game yesterday.
This was my first time launching it so possibly this error only occurs after a fresh install?

I had the same problem and I could reproduce it by going to the workshop mission screen and then go back and try to start a new Sandbox fame. It won't start. the button says Confirm Settings instead of start game. So obvious fix is not to go to workshop mission, but if you did, restart the game and then go straight for Sandbox.

I had the same problem with Sandbox game. It only had "confirm settings" & "cancel" at the bottom. Hitting confirm settings would then load and bring me right back to those same settings. So then I went back and turned off "game pad". Now instead of "confirm settings", there's now "start game" & "cancel" at the bottom…weird.

This thread should be pinned. It's now 2017 and that problem still hasn't been fixed so it most certainly never will be. I had the same problem and came looking on the forum for answers. Luckily for me, @Jeffective had just posted half-an-hour earlier and the thread was still on top. Not everyone will be so lucky.
