Please be aware that only the host will get the savegame after it got requested and it can only be used when everybody from the lobby is back in the game afterwards. This means if I am the host of a lobby with my pals A, B and C, I have saved the game and want to continue one day later, I also need A, B and C and no more or no less players. Additionally the spots cannot be filled with other players.
Also please make sure that everyone in your lobby is not using any kind of third party mods (no mods at all, disabling will not help in most cases) and/or DLCs that other do not own.

thanks for your answer. However, I still can't figure out why we couldn't save. My friend was the host, and he didn't get any feedback after clicking "Request savegame" either. We both have the same DLCs (both bought the complete pack) and never downloaded anything from the workshop.
In the lobby there were the two of us, as before.
Kind regards,
Sylvestrina
We found the reason: The game must not be paused!
Thank you for the heads up and I am happy you could already fix the problem.
So summed up, when you save the game, you should not have the game paused, am I right?
-cheers
yes, exactly. As long as the game is paused, nothing happens if someone clicks on "Request savegame". With any other gamespeed it worked fine for both of us (as you wrote, the game is always saved on the host's machine). Loading also works fine.
This was pretty counter-intuitive, though. I always pause games whenever I do anything else than playing them, including fiddling with game options or saving, simply because I don't want anything to happen "in the background" when I'm not aware of it.
Kind regards,
Sylvestrina
Thank you for pointing this out!
I will forward this and we will have a look into this.
Keep it up and have fun!
