Bleeding money?

So, after playing this for a while and taking a years long break, I got back into it. Such a fun little game. However, in sandbox, I keep running into a point where I just bleed money faster than I can bring it in. I'll have 7 docks with 14 ships, but it doesn't seem to matter even when I'm bringing in shipments worth 40k+....

I've gotten to the point I can keep my balance basically in the green all the way to the modern era but it inevitably just starts draining massive amounts but I'm not honestly sure why. Any advice for a returning player or just go check out some guides?

Another annoyance is homeless families, I can have plenty of residential buildings, but there will always be like 20 to 40 homeless people regardless... omg the annoyance.

How much corruption you got going on?

iirc, you can have up to 20 or 30% corruption meaning for every 100k you export, you really only get 70k with 30% corruption ...
