Tropico 5

Tropico 5

This building is too far from the road network.(Vent)
This is has to be one of the most random rules I've seen in a city-builder. All of the ones I've played that have this sort of restriction have a clear reason for it(ex. Cities:Skylines, Sim City 4) but Tropico 5 decided to just arbitrarily include it. Construction workers construct on foot. Why add a road distance requirement at all? Why make it as short as 15-20 tiles? Okay, vent over. Free bit of advice to the developers of Tropico 6, make sure rules exist for a purpose.

How would they transport the construction materials and their tools...

Having to build a road to where you're going to put up a building is very realistic... and reasonable.

I disagree. Tropico 5, and the Tropico series in general, have never been huge on realism so I don't think that can explain this rule. If that was the case, then what's the deal with quick build? Throwing money at a foundation, IRL, doesn't make the building construct itself. The developers could suspend realism for that, but not for building more then X tiles from a road? What does this restriction add to the game? Sorry if I sound :steamsalty: , but this design choice is just bizzare.

You do sound salty and this design choice is, to me, completely normal and reasonable. Doesn't detract from the game at all, especially considering you should be planning your roads before anything else anyway.

It's an exceptionally minor point to be complaining over. Right now I can drive to the outskirts of the city and find roads leading to nowhere. Why? Because that's called "city planning."

Again, I disagree. How is the road distance requirement normal and reasonable? Tropico 5 isn't the type of city-builder where every building needs a road connection, and previous Tropicos(aside from Tropico 2 which was a spin-off of sorts) had no such restriction. Was it efficient to build far from roads? No, as your builders would take forever, and might actually die in the process from starvation or healthcare. However, you weren't prohibited from doing so, and building a short distance worked out fine. What does restricting building, even quick building, when it's more then X tiles from a road add to the experience? Far as I can tell, it only serves to limit creativity. You're right that road planning is important, but I've beaten the campaign twice and acquired all the trophies for the game on PS4 so that's not my issue.

Not really when you consider the islands look like they have tracks anyway..

Do you build a rl farm next to a road, or do you go off the beaten track sometimes?.. lol

"Tropico 5 isn't the type of city-builder where every building needs a road connection"

Every production building.
Police station
Grocery store/supermarket

Dude.

Arpente, some of the buildings do require road connections but just as many don't. If you want to see a game that absolutely requires road connections for 99% of buildings, which is what I'm referring to where you quoted me, then look at Cities:Skylines, Sim City 4, or even Tropico 2 if you want a more relevant one. Tropico 5 is not one of those types of city-builders and hence the road distance restriction is arbitrary. What does it add to to T5? I'm not opposed to rules provided they serve a point.

You said a reason above. They can die from hunger and healthcare.
Even better, that would take ages for buildings to be built. The game is supposed to have some city planning because tropical islands are small, but the maps are WAY too big. No wonder why people are making scenarios about being extremely restricted.
