Game Crashes on Launch
Attempted to start up the game, and each attempt generates a crash. "Tropico 5 has stopped working", and a big white screen where previously the title videos and the like would play instead. Likewise, the boot time seems to be an extra... 10 seconds to get to the white screen, whereas previously I think it was relatively instantanious.

OS: Windows 8, 64 bit
Ram: 12GB
CPU: Intel i7-4700MQ (2.4Ghz)
GPU: NVidia GTX 770M / 3GB

I was playing about a month ago, and didn't have any issues at all, so I'm not overly sure what's changed within that time, as I don't recall an update off the top of my head, and nothing has changed on my system that I can recall either - beyond your usual Windows updates and the like. Game has been installed the entire time, and verifying the Steam cache said that its all valid, so not really sure what the issue at hand is.

Update: After reading the dump, I thought it may be an issue with the need to run as Admin for some reason. Did so, same error. Deleted the KalypsoLauncher Dynamic Link Library with the hopes that whatever the error was, it was there, error still didn't go away.

Hi Gyhthy
When using a laptop with an integrated graphic chip, it might be the case that by default this chip will be used, instead of the dedicated graphic cards, which may impact the performance of a game. You can easily change this by doing the following:
- Update the graphic card driver from the link below.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us
- Then change the settings as described below:
1. Open your Nvidia Control Panel (right-click on desktop, select Nvidia Control Panel)
2. Select "Manage 3D settings"
3. Select "Global Settings". You will find the option "Preferred graphics processor". Please select "High-performance NVIDIA processor" and save the settings.
4. You will have to reboot your system for the changes to take effect.
-cheers

I've had that set up since about day 1 of getting the laptop, so I know that its not an issue with something like that. I'm also running the latest driver, according to their GeForce Experience Driver Management software.

Any other possible suggestions come to mind? I'm debating deleting the game and doing a straight up reinstall, but I'm a bit worried about losing my save data, as well as the length of time it will take for me to download the game again given my current internet situation.

Since this topic is fresh I will use it to post a question as well.
Game crashes after 10 - 15 minutes of play.

I've been reading in forums and after I set the game to run as an andministrator, uptaded my drivers, even used the dx drivers in the commonredit folder after all that I could play the game for longer periods of time.

Recently tho, without changing anything it started crashing after 15 minuters again.

my specs are:
windows 7
Intel i7 4790k
gefoce gtx 980
32gb of ram

Deleted the executable, and now instead of it instantly going to a blank white screen, I at least get a pop up to sign into my account for Kalypso. Any other steps that can be suggested, or am I just best off doing a full uninstall of the game at this point, including all DLC and all content?
Gyhthy Jan 19, 2017 @ 6:27pm
Deleted the entire game, re-downloaded it, and still end up with an issue at the exact same spot.

There is plenty. I mean, you literally posted here becuase a Developer posted in the thread. It hasn't even been 24 hours yet, and the developer likely isn't even in North America given the times they were posting at yesterday, so they probably only just saw these posts a few hours ago and may be working on seeing what the solution is, and what they can do.

Might I add, you're problem had nothing at all to do with mine, therefore maybe that's why you're not getting and help on that side of things? Beyond that, have you emailed their actual support contact or anything like that...? Lastly, why name drop a random youtube channel? Makes it seem more like you're simply looking to advertise and find fault with the developers than actually get a soution to the issue...

Deleted the entire game library from Steam, and redownloaded it. Still getting the exact same issue I had previously. I've also gone in and downloaded any windows updates I was missing - but there were none. All drivers and software on the system are all up to date, so not really sure what's causing this massive white screen on launch.
Gyhthy Jan 23, 2017 @ 2:58am
Took a few more steps, this time going about and turning off the fire wall and seeing if that was playing a role, and I also ended up deleting my saves in case there was an issue there. Likewise, I disabled the Steam could in case something was wrong with that implemenation... doing each of these one by one, and then trying them as a group, still didn't resolve this issue.
hostguest Jan 24, 2017 @ 7:58am
i have the same problem. the game runs only with the intel core graphic card(or you integrated graphic card), the nvidia card is inactive(device manager). then it works. all over "solutions" doesnt work. it has nothing to do with manage 3D settings and all this stuff.
Gyhthy Jan 24, 2017 @ 10:36am
NVidia just pushed an update (378.49) . I'm downloading that now (current 376.33) to see if this resolves the issue, or is just a completely random update. Given I haven't heard anything in this thread, nor my email yet, I have to assume they went to NVidia asking about an issue, and this may be a code push by NVidia to resolve something they broke during a previous update.

Will report back if this works or not once the update is installed.

Update: Issue is changed. Instead of the application crashing, it now simply hangs indefinitely, prompting Windows to ask me to End the Task.

Still haven't heard back anything on my email, as well as obviously nothing here. Any ETA on when I can expect a response at least...? It's been a week almost.

Resurrecting this thread, if only because I never got a concrete answer as to why this was an issue or how to fix it.
