Final Emperor trigger - 4 or 5 heroes?
So I was planning out a very long drawn out game with many time skips. After I defeated Dantarg and rescued the Mu Calf, I got a time skip and now the final emperor is triggered, earlier than I expected. I beat the first Kzinssie with Gerard, then Bokhohn, Wagnas, Rocbouquet, and now Dantarg. I negotiated with Noel and didn't fight him, and never met Subier. Kzinssie never revived before final emperor was forced on me.

Is there something that triggers this to happen early like this? I was pretty certain Kzinssie revives first, then after you defeat the next hero you trigger final emperor. For reference, I am in Imperial Year 2640 and have been through a lot of emperors.

edit: Also, since Dantarg didn't force a black screen when I beat him, that means I could have technically went to go find Subier and defeat an extra hero anyways?

It's 5 heroes. Including Kzinssie.

Kzinssie's revival always happens in Final Emperor and never a moment before. Orieve tells you that when you talk to her in the Forgotten Town.

And yes, Dantarg doesn't trigger a Black Screen if defeated in Child and Mu Calf dungeon. You could have beaten him, then gone to beat Noel (also doesn't trigger a black screen if you made peace with him), and then continued exploring the world, and only gotten final Emperor after doing another black screen thingy (like defeating Subier).

In fact, if you defeat all 7 heroes before Final Emperor, Kzinssie's letter says he'll be waiting for you in the Snowdrifts instead of in the Sealed Cave.
Ok great - thank you for all the info. I have a save file right before I talked to the boy and Mu Calf (after beating Dantarg), so I may just load that and explore the world, defeat Noel, and then defeat Subier to force the black screen and then get final emperor after doing as much as possible. I beat Dantarg with Coppelia empress so it's always fun to use her for as long as I can to do these other things.

In the original game/Remaster, it was possible to face the final boss with a Coppelia Emperor (or anyone) through some exploits. However, in the name of "progress" our mechanical girl has been shut out.

My theory is that voice acting is the culprit. Since content exclusive to Final Emperor has voice acting in it, it would be troublesome if you weren't on Final Emperor when you got there.

I don't really think this game needs any kind of DLC.

...but I would probably buy a DLC that let Coppelia be the Final Emperor...
