Will I know if there's Sidequest available?
It seems like this game has tons of optional unlockables? and missables too?
I don't know, there's literally NO guide about this game. very surprising considering this is a surprise hit from square enix.
I'm not the "LET'S REVISIT EVERY PLACE, TALK TO EVERY NPC AFTER EVERY STORY PROGRESSION" type of gamer, so if this game has tons of hidden obscure sidequest (instead of being visibly marked on the map), there's no way I'd encounter them.

So, Will I know if there's Sidequest available? do I need a guide to get all relevant sidequests and recruitable jobs?

There are almost no side quests in this game. Most of the main quests are found naturally. However, there are some quests that you won't find unless you know about them. It will be difficult to get everything on your first playthrough without a guide. I'm not sure if it will be fun to go on an adventure after knowing about it.

With this version of the game, any quests - sidequests or mandatory quests - will appear on world map with a notification marker. The developers included it so that it would be more newcomer friendly for those first approaching the series (for those who crave the original experience, you can turn it off in the options menu).

And give Gerard a little bit. He learns a thing or two.

Ok good to know.
I just did the cat thief quest and I can force Gerard to retire.
It sucks that because of this inheritance system, my MC and my party now have totally become SILENT. No more charactet-driven contents from now on huh...

Basically, yes, every Emperor is a silent protagonist after Gerard (as well as any character once you recruit them). It's because the game has no idea who you have in that role - the flip side of all the freedom you have is that the game has to be compatible with any choice you make. The exception is the Final Emperor, they have a bit of dialogue.

Thats disappointing. I like when my characters have persoalnality and relevance, not just generics
