Trying to get Gerard to Cumberland.
Title, what am I doing wrong? The screenshot is just before I fight the boss in canal I thought I was set but everytime I get a 58 years pass screen.

Fight one more normal battle before fighting the boss. Wash, rinse, repeat until you don't get a time skip. If you've done this 16 times and you still get one, then that means beating the boss gave you enough event points to force a time skip.

The Time Skip formula is fairly complicated. If this is your first run I wouldn't worry too much about it, getting Gerard to Cumberland doesn't get you anything extra, any more story, or any kind of bonus. If you're doing it as a challenge or for fun, that's going to mean going deep into Event Points, Battle Counts, doing division and comparing remainders against certain values. And as Exdeathmore mentioned, if you've done enough quests as Gerard at that point (Goblins, Martial Artists, Gemstone Mine, etc.) it's entirely possible that defeating the Canal boss will necessitate a Time Skip.

If this is your first playthrough I really wouldn't worry about the Time Skip - trying to outmaneuver it is just going to give you a headache. Just accept that it's coming after certain bosses or events, will surprise you sometimes, and is just another mechanic to roll with.

That's just it though I didn't do anything extra. The only events I did was sealed cave, Watchman nest, Leons death, goblin invasion, and kill Knissie. Nothing else. After the 1 year skip I went straight to canal, no mines, no sewers, no martial arts no goblin king, no smithy, nothing. I can't possibly have enough EP for a time skip. At least according to the old chart.

Is that my problem? LoL, not enough fights under my belt? I was getting concerned that I still had too many because I thought 14 was the number of fights you were allowed to have overall and I unfortunately racked up 16.

In the old game, retreats counted towards your generational battle count. It's my understanding that in this version, retreats no longer do. So from that picture, it seems like your total generational battle count towards that formula is actually 12 (16 minus the 4 retreats). You'd probably want to get that up to 15 for the best chance to avoid the skip - so three more fights.

(And you definitely can have enough EP for the Time Skip - I think the lowest you can possibly have is 12-13 after the Canal if you haven't done anything else)

(That one unaccounted for fight - 11 victories, 4 retreats, but 16 total - I think is the Kzinssie fight. I'm not sure how the game logs that battle, if it counts towards the total battle count or not. I'm assuming it does, but you may want to keep a backup at around this point just in case)

14 is the number of Victory fights you need to NOT get a time skip, or at least the least amount of victorious battles won. Anything less than that gives a time skip. Poor Gerard simply didn't have enough "Life" experience to continue on, LoL.
