Please help me understand glimmering...
Hey guys, so I have about 80 hours in and I'm at endgame. FYI, I've completed everything other than the new dungeon that comes after defeating the 7.

I'm now trying to glimmer everything I can but I don't understand why some glimmer techs (mainly greatsword) are locked. At the trainer, it shows it can be glimmered, but on several characters, after equipping the tech and inspecting it in the Techs & Spells screen, it shows as locked (with a red box and stripe through it).

I then thought leveling my spells would maybe cause the Greatsword tech glimmers to become available but all of my spell schools are lvl 36+ (other than Aero, which is at 32 as of now) but they are still locked. WHY are they locked??

I've also read some people talking about "Glimmer Chart" for characters which show what stuff each char can and can not glimmer but I have no clue where to find that.

Anyone has a clue..?

Additional info, the techs from which I should still be able to glimmer new techs for Greatsword are:

Blunt Strike (1/1 unglimmered)
Smash (1/2 unglimmered)
Vertical Strike (1/3 unglimmered)
Empty Blade (1/1 unglimmered)

It dipend from character to character and from generation to generation.. In each generation I put the skill I needed to the "new" charcater and see if it can do it, if not I swap him with another that can.

I glimmered those skill with Light infantry M/F and Mercenary M if I remember correctly from my runs.. there are few fixed named char that should be good like Achilles (Mercenary M).
There is a guide for that on steam and he mention few of those names.

edit: Glimmer tech does not depend on magic level.

Some classes are much more effective at glimmering certain weapon techs than others (spell schools have nothing to do with glimmering weapon techs, they're a separate kind of glimmering). It gets a little more complicated than that actually - some characters even within a class are better at sparking a specific weapon type than others. In the Female Ranger class, for example, your first Ranger, Therese, can spark all possible Bow techs. However, the Female Ranger you get in the next generation, Mary, can spark all Shortsword techs. Therese can spark some, but not all of the Shortsword techs. Mary can spark some, but not all Bow techs. If the skill shows a red box and stripe through it, that means the individual character will never spark that skill.

There are some classes that simplify this. All Hunters can spark all Bow techs. All Moles can spark all Shortsword techs.

To answer your specific question, the Levante Guard is the best class for sparking Greatsword techs. There are some characters within a class across the generations that are equally good, but every Levante Guard can spark almost every Greatsword tech - the only one they can't spark is Smash (it's an early tech, a lot of other units can spark it). They've simplified things greatly since the original/remaster, in that you can see sparking charts within the game at all; though I do wish they'd simplified it a little further and let you check sparking charts on a character without bringing each individual unit to the trainer and cross referencing (gotta maintain some mystery I suppose).

Take any Levante Guard to the trainer and you'll see the Greatsword techs without the red box and stripe there. They're professional Greatsword hitters. Once you've registered the tech (if you don't want to keep using Levante Guards) then you can give it to anyone.

As for the legendary "Glimmer Chart"...

I generally try not to give people too much information up front on this game, since I think discovering it is a big part of the fun, but since you're at the endgame:

Try not to get too sucked into this site. It's a lot of information, some you wouldn't be able to really know otherwise, and an absolutely incredible resource made with tremendous effort, but some of it you'd be able to deduce from playing the game at your own pace. I'd recommend you really only dive into it once you're really, really stumped or have already completed the game. Which... you kinda have!

Thanks guys. So if I understand correctly, the "Glimmer Chart" people have been referencing is the same as what I was already looking at? Meaning, put a skill on a character first, then go to the menu and inspect the character's Tech & Spells and then see if the glimmer is locked or not? If correct, pretty annoying but okay.

Regardless, I have been able to tech all of the Greatsword techs on the Levant Guard! Super cool. One issue remains though.

I still have spear skill glimmer from the "Aim" tech. Not sure what Aim glimmers into but I have found a character that SHOULD be able to glimmer this (no red box over it), which is good. However, no matter what monsters I go to, the glimmer does not show up in battle on the Aim skill.

I tried the recommended loch nesse mosnter in Lake Wyringa, I tried the Termines in the endgame dungeon, as well as some mobs on Floor 3 of the Seven Heroes dungeon, as well as the final 7Heroes boss.... no glimmer showing up at all.

What am I missing? Spell schools don't matter, the character should be able to glimmer it, I tried the strongest monsters in the game (I think)... what else am I forgetting?

Albions in Lake Wyringa are the best enemies for Glimmering. Be sure to be trying it with the right monster.

As for getting a tech through Aim... It's probably either Petrify Rush or Divine Lancer (or Psycho Shot if you're using the Divine Longinus).

If your enemy level is at least 11, it should be pretty easy to Glimmer this from Albions.

... I'm not sure what the issue you're facing is...

Oh, right! Might be your Spear Level. Here's the needed Spear Levels.

Petrify Rush: 20
Divine Lancer: 40
Psycho Shot: 24

Ah, and a good choice for Spear Glimmerers are the Amazons. All of them, except Artemisia, can Glimmer all Spear techs.
