Would you reccomend this game/
Would you recommend this game? What is this game almost like or very similar too?
I love turn based JRPGs, and waifus. I enjoy interesting boss fights.
I am unsure what non-linear is. Would just like some more info overall from people who are actively playing this game

Recommend? Yes, absolutely, it's my favorite game of the past 19 years~

As for similar games to this... The easiest comparison is Final Fantasy 2. Imagine Final Fantasy 2, but done well. That's the basis of what the SaGa Franchise's gameplay is like.

There are plenty of interesting boss fights, so you can rest assured with that.

Waifus... There are plenty of female characters you can choose as Emperors or add to your party, but the game has basically no romance to speak of, other than a single quest that ends in a timeskip as your emperor runs away with a mermaid and abandons his duty as an emperor (though you just assign a new emperor after that and move on. It's not biggie).

As for non-linear... It means you have a lot of flexibility with the order in which you approach the events of the game. The start is pretty linear, with you following a specific set-order of events, but once you're done with that, the world starts opening up, and you get two different events that you can choose to do... And doing those events open up more events that open up more of the world, and a bit after that you basically unlock the whole world and can do events in whatever order you want.

Ah, bear in mind that this game doesn't have a big focus on story. Like... I do enjoy the story it has, but it's a fairly simple and straight-forward story. Nothing too big about it. Don't expect this to be a Persona or a Final Fantasy. The story is there, I like it, but it's small and definitely not the focus of the game. The focus of the game is on the gameplay.

There is a demo. I have played but not finished the demo. I found it boring, the story did not do anything to excite me (other than the conversations about choosing a type of class / what type of fighter you can become). I heard that the battles are better after the demo but both the story and fights from what little I have seen were just not predicting much goods for me to keep playing. Things like who has what status effect currently or good visibile indicators of big attacks were almost missing? I can only expect that the story will be similar and there is not much to change at the core of how the fights are. Just what I think, maybe this is not the type of game for me. So you shoud definitly at least play the demo to decide for yourself.

The story is simple and straightforward. I like it, but don't expect anything particularly impressive out of it. So... Yeah, if you weren't hooked by the story of the demo, don't expect it to get much better. Story really isn't the focus of the SaGa games.

As for the gameplay, it actually does gain more depth as you progress. You start having access to more elements, more status effects, the Overdrive Bar starts becoming more relevant, you start facing enemies that resist certain types of attacks, or that can receive critical hits from certain attacks.

Even random mooks can be quite scary at times, and bosses usually have enough unique mechanics to make their battles feel unique and interesting. The demo does a good job at showing you the gist of the gameplay, but not enough of a good job to show you the depth of the gameplay.

But yeah, the story is definitely not impressive, so if this is an important thing for you and you don't think you will change your mind on the gameplay, then it's better to not buy it and save your money for something else.

it's similar to FFX in game style and combat except your hp recharges to full after each battle but BP does not, a pre-cursor to The Last Remnant.

In short if you enjoy turn base combat then this is for you. The story is decent and there are difficulty levels to choose from, it's good.
