Struggling with the first boss
I beat the first boss and now am asked to beat him for real this time because he had plot armor in the beginning. I am starting to figure out what I want to do in the battle but what usually ends up happening during the battle stages is that the boss's different attacks end up throwing me off pace.

Should I just reduce the difficulty to Casual? Or is there some consequence if I were to leave the location and go somewhere else to try to level up more or go back to the first city to switch my party if it feels like the current one is not managing it?

Any advice is appreciated. I felt like the difficulty level was pretty ok on Normal until I hit this boss fight but I just spent like an hour or two just beating my head against it and it's not as fun anymore. So anything that helps me get forward would be helpful. :)

You can grind if you want, but that may also lead to enemy level increasing, so I'm not sure if it would help much.

My best advice would be to try destroying the parts of the boss as he summons them, and to try glimmering Cross Cut by spamming Stun Slash on enemies. Cross Cut makes Kzinssie a lot easier.

Anyways, there are no consequences with leaving this for later, going back to Avalon to change your party and the like... Though well, you won't be able to move forward in the story until you beat Kzinssie, since the game only starts opening up until he is defeated.

Thank you. :) I think I will try to wander around the area maybe then and try to glimmer Cross Cut for Bear and the protagonist.

I am playing on Classic difficulty and training (I won't call it grind as it isn't that long) before fighting the boss is important. As a guide, you should at least be comfortable taking down the minions before taking the boss. There is a jump in power level after the king sacrifice himself so training is required (I did the goblin caves first).

If I remember correctly, I have to train until everyone's minimum health stays above 165-170 to survive the boss's cross slash to win this. Also make sure everyone is outfitted with gears. And of course, always go in with your combo gauge filled.

Thanks for advice. :) I did what I mentioned in my previous message and wandered around a bit in the dungeon and funnily I actually finished the boss then on first attempt, hah. So I guess gathering that tiny bit of extra experience helped to glimmer Cross Cut as needed.

I try to save often going forward and if I feel like I am dying too fast it is good to know that I can go to another part quite freely and train there until I am ready to come back so I don't run out of LP.

Speaking of LP, I have noticed that even if you would have a formation sometime the enemies still might aim their highest attacks at your least likely to be targeted character. So I guess sometimes losing LP might be unavoidable. But I feel like I am learning. :)

Grinding isn't required at all to beat Kzinssie, for the record... But yes, it's definitely an option if you're struggling~

Gz on beating him! \(^^)/

Ah, and yeah, Formations don't guarantee that a certain unit will be attacked over another. It just puts the percentages in your favor. I posted a guide here on the Steam Forums where you can look at all the Formations with the Datamined percentages if you want.

Oh, and now that Kzinssie is gone... Death really is a no-biggie now. You can change Emperors now if you want, and a unit dying just means you can replace it to a different one, so... Well, don't worry too much about things and experiment!

Best advice I can give you on top of that, is to try using status aliments. Most bosses in this game are susceptible to some status aliments, so be sure to use them! It makes a huge difference!
