This game versus the remastered
Hi, is this game's game play similar to the remastered RS2 that was released few years ago? I am asking because I was just playing the remastered RS2 not long ago. If this game has everything the same except the 3D graphic upgrade, I feel I would just be playing the same game again with better graphic. Anything new and unique in this game comparing to the previous RS2? My nostalgia was fulfilled by the previous RS2 remastered already, and do not wish to play the same game with just a better graphic. I think they should have released this one years ago instead of the remastered.

It still feels the same to the remaster, but it's also fairly different.

There is 3D and voice acting to begin with. The maps were also completely redone from scratch, chest locations changed and whatnot.

You can now access the Memories of the Seven Heroes to get their backstory that was previously only available in outside materials.

There are 2 new classes in the Dancer and in the Imperial Blacksmith.

Smithing system was completely redone.

A bunch of new spells were added, and spells now can be glimmered.

Avalon Development became a bit more intuitive and you now can register techs/spells glimmered in the last generation.

Fusion Spells now require spell books being researched instead of just... Well, paying researchers.

Many bosses were completely redone to have more interesting mechanics in their fights. Most notably the Seven Heroes, but the Termite Queen, Real Queen and Dread Queen also received this treatment.

The weakness/resistance system was completely overhauled.

There is now an Overdrive gauge that lets you send out stronger attacks, and it's built-up by hitting enemies' weaknesses.

There is a passive system now that lets each class have more individuality with their unique passives.

There is now a battle timeline that lets you have better control of the turn order in battle.

Hasten Time was nerfed to not longer be an "I win" button.

There are now some NG+ exclusive difficulties, but they just increase enemy stats, so they're fairly lame and kinda boring.

Plenty of Quality of Life upgrades were made to make the game more intuitive without really taking away from the feeling the original had.

Conditions for 2nd form of heroes were changed to some extent, with a few new ones added, and a few changed.

Units no longer have built-in gear. Their exclusive gear can now be unequipped and equipped on somebody else.

Each piece of gear now has a dedicated slot instead of the 3 slots you previously had where you could mix and match things... Which was mostly a nice change IMO, but it also made Suits utterly useless, so we're hoping they drop a patch buffing Suits eventually, because rn there is 0 point in using them.

And uhn... From the top of my head, those are the main changes. Plenty of good changes to make it more unique while still feeling a lot like the original IMO~

As for them making the remake back in 2017... I don't think they were even thinking of the possibility of remaking a SaGa game 7 years ago. They were mostly porting them over to PC and modern consoles and stuff. I don't think it makes much sense to compare what they did then with what they're doing now.

Ok, thank you Aliceshiki for the details. I like to use full armor suite on imperil knight or elephant on certain formation, but I guess they want people to use those light armors which have many varieties. I guess they keep those dream maze weapons from the RS2 remastered? Spells become spark-able? Dark school spells still only available after you sacrifice Salamander? Anyway, I guess I will give it a try then. ^^

Heavy Armor is still good, it's just the full armor suits that are bad... And I hope it gets patched to get them buffed, because I think it was an oversight on their end. They're really bad right now.

The weapons from the Maze of Memory were spread out across the game!

And yeah, Dark Magic is still mutually exclusive with the Salamanders. And the Diviners now require you to get Dark Magic to use them.
