You must focus on the best class skill you wanna master and keep for your final team and try to unlock all weapon skill during your play, use the skill tree to see what remain...
As the team itself try to cover all weapon and magic element sure, you need at least one big guy to stand for the team, endure and parry the regular attack thats all for the first half of the game. All the other four will serve you as mix skill party who learn new stuff depending their weapon preference...
As for magic I think some combinaison and element are a lot better than other... for example and if you explored the ice ruin , light and wind will give restoration for healing all team, fire and light will give you massive spell great against undead or demon or even regular...Water seems the weakest one but it can support a bit...

Ok... It Is a bit of what I have been doing. So far I try use what game offers, just got Divine Wall formation with the new timeline and I'm setting my team in accord to this to see how it could work.
