Blacksmith weapon unlocks

Anyone know what quests trigger unlocks weapon types for upgrade in the smithy, like finishing the termite queen unlocks the bow upgrades? Especially the axes, im having trouble findings some decent ones for a corsair emperor run, thanks!

I'm having the same problem atm so i used an old wiki to compare stuff with the original.

Apparently the original had very few axes.

And Smithy lvl 2 had no new axes or spears in the original.
Now i see they moved a remaster only spear to the lvl 2 smithy, but the remaster only added one axe which was the best axe in the game, so its entirely possible there really isn't any new axes at lvl 2.

According to the old game the next 2 axes before you can upgrade again is in bardic grotto and gelid ruins.
No idea where that is as i haven't found them myself.

So unless someone found a change with the new game where you can get access to a good axe midgame, you probably gotto wait until smithy lvl 3 or find the locations i mentioned.

I also have Tier 1 and 3 of axes, but not 2. Can't remember which region Tier 3 came from unfortunately, but I can tell you its not from Yauda, The Steppe, Torrence, Melu or the Frozen Sea. Good to know The Steppe gives Robes/Hats though, my mage equipment has been kinda lacking.

Related map/side quest spoilers;
Gelid ruins are discoverable through the Mu habitat in the Frozen Sea I think, which opens up after the Lost Child and Mu Calf quest iirc. All the ruins(I've found 3, Gelid, Torrid and Nival) seem to be late game dungeons with pretty difficult bosses. Nival has Gold Dragons in it though which are fantastic for TP farming.

Edit: I should probably make a list of unlocks by region but I don't really know how to go about that without starting over...

As i understand they moved bows, hats and robes to the steppes to unlock.
In the wiki for the original game you apparently got them much earlier.

As for tier 2 weapons and armor, i don't think you need any unlocks for that as i had them all except that pesky axe who might not even exist.

So i upgraded smithy to lvl 3 now and got the next axe.

So yeah smithy lvl 2 axe does not exist. There is just lvl 1 and lvl 3 axe.
