Martial Artist
Hi, i just finished the quest line, fought the martial artist leader.. then finished the canal quest, forcing a time skip.. however this class does not show up in the tavern..

Chose a M thief class as emperor, the Female thief was now seen at the tavern, however I cant seem to locate the martial artist, does this mean that this class only unlock when i choose a martial artist class as emperor? Thanks!

Afaik, if you kill the monsters at the END of the canal, after the slime one you were supposed to kill, then you're locked out of recruiting Martial Artists for the rest of the game. He warns you to save that fight for them so they can retain their honor.

If you defeat the cave monsters and the martial artist leader then yes you will lose out on being able to recruit them, unless one happens to be available as emperor because iirc if you become one as emperor the dragon's lair dojo might get revived.

If im not mistaken doing this route rather than letting the martial artists finish the job gets you slightly more income though.

It's not a real choice if you don't understand the consequences for your choices, it's a crapshoot. If you don't like crapshooting content, then wait for a full 100% guide before touching the game. The original guides cover it somewhat, but those aren't even accurate because a lot of things have changed, and there are now more ways to miss out on stuff than in the original game, giving you even more of a reason to just wait on the guides.

There are chests you can't get depending on your choices, and some of these chests have ancient tomes needed for fusion magic. In the original, all you needed to unlock most fusion spells (except umbra) was high enough mastery level in 2 different spell schools, now you need a specific tome item for each, it's a garbage change, because those are potentially missable items now. I'm running mages, so missing a fusion magic tome is a ripped run.

TL;DR - there's a LOT of missables, even more so than in the original game. Tomes can be missed, and passive skills obtained by bonding can also be missed. I don't know what or where any of these are, there's not even enough information out there for me to know if I even want them or not.

Isn't that the point of the game? To replay it and see what you could've gotten had you did something else?

The point of the game? For people who enjoy googling "I'm feeling lucky" maybe. Not everyone enjoys crapshooting, some of us might enjoy the game for other reasons than making ill-informed crapshoots, and this is why guides are made.

On first impressions, I assumed they lowered the possibility to miss stuff in this version with all the QoL features, I had no idea that there's even more missables in this version, or I wouldn't have wasted what time I did put into the game. Do I regret playing the game without a guide? Yes, absolutely, because I've already missed stuff that's effectively ripped my run, 8 hours or so of completely wasted time.

Follow guides from the original game, those guides still apply for the quests. The QoLs is mostly for the Smithy, glimmer hints, developing buildings earlier than waiting for a time skip, class abilities and Mr. S bonuses(which is a cool cameo and a mechanic brought over from Trials of Mana remake).

Some of it is still relevant, but the addition of extra missables, like arcane magic tomes for each individual fusion spell (some of these can be permanently missed), and passive skills (also missable depending on choices). If you know of a separate guide that covers all these changes, and the locations of each umbral magic tome, and list of all passives & how to get them that would be helpful. Googling English language guides hasn't turned up anything but click bait.

You aren't the only that has made mistakes in their choices. I ignored the canal fortress right after getting favor with the Thieves guild, then a time skip happened and I had to fight the Deep One again, but to my surprise I got the Vagabond class afterward anyway and still went further south ignoring the canal fortress, unintentionally delaying getting Corsair, and slowing my Smithy development(because I didn't liberate South Varennes, Canal Fortress is part of the region) because this is also my first playthrough of RS2.
I even tried to do the Mermaid quest, but didn't realize I couldn't do it as a Female character, but the quest was still active when I time skipped and chose a Male character.

Just roll with whatever happens, the game does have a New Game+ when you beat it. There's a bunch of other classes to unlock. Your Heavy Infantry can do well on his own using his fists and a sword for his passive.

You are NOT locked out of martial artist. Just wait a few generations. I beat up the martial artist by ignoring their request for credit and still recruited them later.

Really? That's cool.

You don't have to 101% complete games with True Absolute Megagiga Ending and all uber secrets unlocked on your first playthrough

If that's your thing, just read a guide and don't even bother buying or playing games, what's the point
Necro Cheesecake Oct 26, 2024 @ 10:21am
This happened to me to but I found a fix! After you finish that quest yet you still can't recruit the martial artist, you'll have a slight chance to pick a martial artist as your next emperor. When you pick him you'll need to do a generation skip and the martial artists will basically say "since one of us became emperor I guess anybody can" and you can recruit them!

Honestly one of the more frustrating parts of the game is how you can basically lock yourself in a sophie's choice... due to the force accession
