If im not mistaken doing this route rather than letting the martial artists finish the job gets you slightly more income though.
There are chests you can't get depending on your choices, and some of these chests have ancient tomes needed for fusion magic. In the original, all you needed to unlock most fusion spells (except umbra) was high enough mastery level in 2 different spell schools, now you need a specific tome item for each, it's a garbage change, because those are potentially missable items now. I'm running mages, so missing a fusion magic tome is a ripped run.
TL;DR - there's a LOT of missables, even more so than in the original game. Tomes can be missed, and passive skills obtained by bonding can also be missed. I don't know what or where any of these are, there's not even enough information out there for me to know if I even want them or not.
The point of the game? For people who enjoy googling "I'm feeling lucky" maybe. Not everyone enjoys crapshooting, some of us might enjoy the game for other reasons than making ill-informed crapshoots, and this is why guides are made.
On first impressions, I assumed they lowered the possibility to miss stuff in this version with all the QoL features, I had no idea that there's even more missables in this version, or I wouldn't have wasted what time I did put into the game. Do I regret playing the game without a guide? Yes, absolutely, because I've already missed stuff that's effectively ripped my run, 8 hours or so of completely wasted time.
Some of it is still relevant, but the addition of extra missables, like arcane magic tomes for each individual fusion spell (some of these can be permanently missed), and passive skills (also missable depending on choices). If you know of a separate guide that covers all these changes, and the locations of each umbral magic tome, and list of all passives & how to get them that would be helpful. Googling English language guides hasn't turned up anything but click bait.
I even tried to do the Mermaid quest, but didn't realize I couldn't do it as a Female character, but the quest was still active when I time skipped and chose a Male character.
Oh so at least theres a workaround, i got an emperor candidate martial artist, chose that onw and got the class unlocked :D
If that's your thing, just read a guide and don't even bother buying or playing games, what's the point
