Guide?
Is anybody going to work on a 100% guide or something? I don't like walking in completely blind, and given the nature of this game and the fact that there's new content...

Honestly, that's kind of part of the fun. There were a few confusing systematic things I needed a guide for in the original game, and I kept reading the guide even after my issue was clarified.

Regret. The game is way more fun when the outcomes of quests surprise you. It makes it feel awesome as hell when you get something right, and that rightness sticks around for good.

As for those systematic issues, the game details them with ingame tutorials this time around.

Honestly, I would still like a guide regardless since there are missables and the game does punish you for trying to grind. Or has that been fixed in this remake? I'm going to try to play through it blind for the time being.

I don't think it's ever punished you for trying to grind. Hell, if anything, it gives you more exp because of stronger enemies. That sounds like a reward to me.

Recommended times when to do sidequests? Because I've read they can trigger time skips depending on how many you do. And do battles also trigger them too?

Time skips only change your current protagonist. Everything else in the world virtually stays the same.
If a sidequest demands you use the same emperor from beginning to end, those quests will be forfeit. There are not many of them though.

Battles do factor into whether a timeskip occurs earlier or later after a certain threshold, but you will never trigger that threshold unless you have done a certain number of certain quests, with some quests bringing you closer than others. A battle will also never cause a timeskip. Only quests can do that.

the game is often totally stupid with its time skip mechanics. you defeat boss x = 1 year later. then you defeat a rather inconspicuous boss and bang = 110 years later. lol?

but the side quests that supposedly require me to act quickly are still there)

so yeah, just enjoy the mechanics and fights, ignore the poor story and everything around it...

Do the time skips stop once you've reached the last emperor?

I don't know about anyone working on any remake guides but this site[romancing-saga-2.blogspot.com] may be a good reference as far as data from the ORIGINAL (or remastered) versions go.
Obviously the remake has several changes but there might still be a few matches that can help.

Yeah, I know about that one. But I'm hoping for a guide that talks about the new content. In fact, the page says this: "That said, listing differences and similarities may just be meaningless, as under the guise of a Remake of a Remaster, it is probably fitting to think of RS2: The Revenge of the Seven as a brand new game (new gameplay, new mechanics, new formulae), as remains only the basic script of the original game."

Just wondering if it's OK to wipe out all enemies when going to a dungeon for a quest, and if it's also OK to wipe them out again when they respawn after getting a memory. Whenever I get stuff for the smithy, incantations, orchard, and university, I'm waiting until I'm finished with a dungeon until I go back to Avalon to get those upgrades. So far, I'm at battle rank 6, and the enemies have not been giving me too much trouble. I'm playing on normal, so I'm not sure if there's a difference or not.

Once enemy level gets into the 10+ range, enemies all start to have like 3-5K+ HP, so if you're not doing thousands of damage with attacks, you're going to find yourself in serious trouble. 600 battles will put you at enemy level 10. By that point, you should have around 550-600 HP, and have weapon/magic levels into the 35-40 range, and be using at least 2nd tier equipment from the smithy. That's my general opinion as to where you should be at for a targeted enemy level.

Not all encounters are equal, some give considerably more TP gains than others, and the game counts all battles equally. Some groups might give 200-300, and others might give a whopping 1700-2000. If you're going to grind and wish to be stronger in relation to the enemies, you need to be fighting juicy stuff, while avoiding groups that aren't worth fighting.

There's a decent spot early on with a big slime in the sewers and the encounter right beside of it that give considerably more TP than average for the area, and there's stairs leading to the outside that you can enter/exit to respawn them. When I grinded a bit, I used this encounter. Getting a good 50 battles in on some juicier enemies could put you a bit ahead of the curve without bumping the rank up too much.

So far I played, It's really reliable in the order of quests are done. The generally of the quest still remains in the remake, so trying to do as any original or the remaster go tovthe same result.
The obvious changes are maps and treasures, but surprisingly, most of the treasures remains the same, adding just others loots.

I'm using a mash up I did based on a Japanese guide with the RS2 blog walkthrough. And so far, nothing deviate so much on time skips and quests. Just recently, I took a side quests I think didn't exists in the original.

Again, the game doesn't seem to be too bad on normal difficulty for me so far. I guess Square Enix and Xeen really wanted it to be accessible for beginners. My weapons and magic levels are mostly in the ten or twenties and they are leveling up pretty fast. I'm planning to grind for real when I get to the final emperor. I always make sure to be stocked up on the newest equipment before advancing a quest or dungeon.

however some might fail quests but its usually pretty obvious like a civil war

I'm using this Youtube walkthrough to get a general idea of what to do next along with knowing what recommended party I should use. I know there's no right party, but still. A bit ago, I've beaten Dantarg while following this. He wasn't too bad of a fight at rank 7.
