How to beat Giant in Gelid Ruins easy.
Well, as easy as possible without grinding till you get everyone /w the light magic that makes you immune to sword damage.

Enemy Strength lvl. 7

What you need across your 5 members:
-2 /w Sweep (one the ranger /w 50% increased chance to hit status effects) (or something that stuns like stun strike)
-2 /w Headblow (or something that puts him to sleep)
-Mage /w Entangle (or another stun ability)

Giant can be stunned and put to sleep but not paralyzed (that would make the fight way too easy).

Basically sweep him to stun him for the round, then try to put him to sleep. Sleeping him is where you get stuff done, because if you don't attack him the round you put him to sleep he won't wake up the next round (sleep lasts for 2 rounds max), so you have free reign next round to have your mage and 2 sweepers focus on DPS while your 2 head blow users try to put him to sleep again so you can daisy chain him /w sleep and DPS during his missed round to roll him.

He can be poisoned too, it does % HP damage per tick, which is probably more damage than you're going to be hitting him for at level 7 enemy strength. You could put him to sleep and let poison tick him.

Anyone know a way to get a poison tech? I haven't seen one in twenty hours so maybe I am just unlucky but I was looking for one.

I just checked my whole tech list and spell list and I don't have listed as causing poison either. There's several weapon specific glimmers I haven't sparked yet, but no weapons are saying they poison either... I didn't even notice there wasn't any poison until you asked.

Poison could be from Umbrology magic, like Ill Wind.
Though, I'm not sure if you'll have it by Lv7 enemy strength, since it's kind of a process to get access to it.

Doing Gelid Ruins early means you can research the heal-all magic early, although you'd need to be specced for air magic / light magic at 20/20 to use it.

Regardless of that you have a bunch of tough mobs that will net you anywhere from 1.1k to 1.6k in XP which is usually double of what normal mobs offer you around the same level (bohkon's fort as an example).

Looks like Iyasenu might be on to something. Dark & Water I and II are Poisonous Blow and Ill Wind. I'm not 100% on the umbrology unlock, but ....THEORETICALLY...

you could ignore the canal as Gerard, head south instead... go through Nibel and Tefal... cross the highlands... lose to Dantarg probably... sail from Toba to Atlanticus... cross Melu West and North into Bihara... cross the Savannah east to Salamat and pick up a stone boat... travel to Mowlie from Salamat, sail to Tsukijima... and solve the volcano step 1 there. I know you have to side with the sorceror and fail step 2 in the next gen somehow, and then come across the sorceror again on the risen isle somehow, then do something with the book if you get it in that gen or the next gen. I'd say it's doable but like, why

If you're globe-trotting, you might as well snatch up an instant-kill weapon or two and try to powerlevel with that against ridiculously powerful opponents. I don't know how BR works in this, but if it's just battles won/fled from (pretty sure one of these earlier sagas counted both) then instantdeath cheese might be the best bet. The Frog-slaying techniques are fairly low-hanging fruit on shortsword. Might be the best bet if there are super-frogs somewhere?

Splasher, Vorpal Axe, and Grim Reaper should be lying around the ruins, but i think you'd still need enough weapon levels to proc the instant-death skills. Maybe you boostrap from frogs into something else doom-able once you spark their techniques?

That's not theorical at all, that's exactly what I did with Gerard. Go south and either Beat/lose to Dantarg, then you can reach the Gelid ruins first gen. The giant only really need stun/sleep to be defeated, which is easy enough to get with your starting team.
The rest you describe is kinda true too. You can access the whole world map from Toba village through the boat, so you can pick whatever you need until you capture a territory, which at that point will most likelly trigger a generation change.

Also, interesting to note, frog slaying skill seems to also proc on lizards ( got an "immune to doom" notification on a boss lizard one time when I used it on them.)
