Is grinding not a thing in this game?
Hello there! When i was checking which emperors might be a good choice I stumbled upon the comparison to "the last revenant" where you get punished when you grind like in most jrpg's.

So is it true? Have i effed myself by running around in the sewers to get swole?

In the imperial standing menu you can see your global weapon levels as well as current revenue and Enemy Strength. Enemy Strength is the Battle Rank from the original, and it goes up as you fight and complete quests. As it goes up, enemies pretty much get an all around stat buff. It's basically just level scaling. That said, I attempted to grind myself into a wall just to see if you could and I never reached a point where random encounters were unmanageable. As enemies get stronger you'll also be getting stronger from skill levels going up and making new equipment at the Smithy.

One word of advice, once you've progressed and opened up several different maps, don't grind at the starter goblin hideaway or other early game maps. The TP per battle there is almost never worth your fight counter going up 1. If you wanna grind, you should generally be doing it on whichever map/whatever enemy gives the most TP per battle.

Good to know, so it is not that tragic yet. Almost had a heartattack xD Very helpful, thx!

Also if you find an area that seems to hard for you right now, go somewhere else, level up, find / craft some better gear and return later. While the enemies scale with you to a ceratin point a little boost in stats and gear can make all the difference. Experienced it mutliple time myself already

Grindign is okay, but don't exaggerate it

As far as I can tell you don´t need to worry about it. I´m late game on classic and I haven´t really put much thought into avoiding grinding.
Had some trouble with early bosses then it sort of hit a sweet spot then for the last 10(?maybe idk) hours I´ve just obliterated bosses and mobs alike.

I´ve charged towards the bosses/quests and when I´ve ran into situations where I got smacked around hard I either just did that dungeon over a time before I tried again or I just went somewhere else for another quest/boss before trying again.
On occasion that meant I´ve hit thresholds that have also increased the bosses stats..solution?
see step A. (go somewhere else or redo that dungeon once or twice)

Staying on top of leveling your equipment and exploring to find chests etc helps I think.
