I'm not too sure about it myself and it could always be possible that some things were tweaked but it involved playing in a very specific way (and order) so that you don't get a timeskip with your 5th hero.
Of course this still meant that if your emperor died after some point you would still likely get the final emperor.
You can probably find stuff about it if you search for 'another legend' playthroughs.
You should probably aim to kill 1 hero other than Dantarg first (not sure which is best, but I'm pretty sure if the first thing you do in a new generation is beat a hero that there are some that won't cause a time skip), and then Dantarg as the 6th hero. The reason I'd leave Dantarg for last is that his quests involve talking to a NPC to finish his quest after killing him and I think it's unlikely to cause a timeskip before doing that.. so just don't talk to the NPCs to finish the quest once you've killed Dantarg.
edit: if it's purely an aesthetic thing, might have to do some cheat engine shenanigans.
Yeah I went on the throne and nothing happened. It's possible that killing all 7 heroes might get the game to think that Kzinssie is the last hero even though he hasn't actually resurrected yet which would be a kind of amusing bug, or it might just be that it's just impossible to do the final battle without the final emperor in this version.
1) Do all the development and side quests you want to do as early as possible. Once you complete the next step, you can't do any more of that!
2) Defeat Wagnas, Bokhohn, and Rocbouquet in any order, keeping in mind that after you defeat the last of these three, this will be your final generation skip.
3) Pick who you want to be your "final" Emperor now. Once you defeat one of the other three heroes in the next step, you cannot party wipe, get your Emperor LP-clapped, or otherwise abdicate (i.e.: complete the Mermaid or Dark Magic quests) or else you'll be given the Final Emperor.
4) In any order:
Defeat Noel without talking to the Desert Guard afterward. This means no Desert Guard for this playthrough.
Defeat Subier in the Sunken Ship. This means either killing the Narwhal or having at least 15 generations pass from the time of Garon's Rebellion to the time you finish the Sunken Ship. Do NOT talk to the Diver afterward, so no Diver 4 U.
Defeat Dantarg in the Child and Mu dungeon, but DO NOT talk to the child or mu afterward. Sorry, kid. That's how things are in these kinds of challenges.
5) Sit on the throne to unlock the final dungeon.
6) Go through the final dungeon. Kzinssie will be the penultimate boss.
7) Defeat meatball as usual. Oddly enough, if you lose to the meatball it's Game Over. The game won't let you choose the actual Final Emperor (M/F) and try again.
That could be why there's no "Other Legend" trophy in this version.
