Leveling in Romancing SaGa 2? (First time with the series)
Hey all, I’m playing the remake to Romancing SaGa 2 and I’m curious about the best approach to leveling a party. Would it benefit to switch to party members now and then or focus on one core group until a timeskip happens?

In other words, should I make efforts to train up everyone and take different teams on different missions, or is that not optimal? Playing on PS5, btw.

there is benefits to both options depending on what you want to do sticking with a team does help that team get stronger overall especially compared to swapping party members often even more if ya keep similar classes going weapon wise for after the timeskips but there some advantages to swapping often as well mastering the classes for there passives for example for later on and mastering more skills so that it updates in the global lvls for both weapons and spells which is useful when you hit a time skip and pass the throne on since mastered weapons skills as well as evasions can be relearned at will for free in the training hall assuming you have the lvl required for the weapon same goes for magic where you can learn it and light infantry class benefits the most from this early on since all there lvls upgrade to match the global lvls for weapons/magic also useful for glimmering special weapon arts since they can use any weapon well as a result of the above there only downside is there lower stats but that can be worked around with equipment/accessory and only theirs do the rest have preset lvls from the global based off class/spark type if i remember right which is not always good given some weapons don,t fit the class stat wise but can be worked around with equipment/accessory but the main downside i can see with sticking with one group if your still learning the game is lp deaths since you are going to lose lp eventually no matter what you do mix and matching the teams gives you a lot of leeway between timeskips to do more things which ironically can be useful for doing more stuff at the start then you would otherwise do but that is more for ng+ people/guides or people that are familiar with the series besides that you want to swap the main emperor or empress to unlock new formations

You'll have an easier time if you stick to a single team, since you won't need to re-level their magic (and sometimes weapons if you aren't using a weapon they have proficiency in) all the time as you switch classes.

However, later on in the game you're gonna unlock an option to master passives, which allows you to use different units' passives on the units in your team, but for that you need to do 30 battles with an unit to unlock their passive and another 30 battles to master the passive. So... Well, later in the game you'll most likely start switching your party around anyways.

If you want to make the process faster by unlocking the passives in the early-mid game by switching your party around, you'll have an easier time mastering the passives later on.

agreed with this since it your first time sticking with a single team is good my initial post was to just cover the pros and cons but overall if this is your first game in the series sticking with a team should help prevent over grinding which can hurt early on in the game due to lack of gear to keep up the only other thing i would add is if you want make sure to take advantage of Abdication before a time skip if you can since you can do it once each time before the skip which will allow you to unlock 2 formations per time skip which can be very helpful for early game
