[Stuck] How do you actually get stronger?
By stronger I mean stronger than the enemies.

I'm playing on Normal and I can't beat Gelid Ruin (the slidey icey temple). Every single enemy hit close to 200 damage, some AoE, inflict status ailment and they're generally very tanky. My gears, heals and skills cant keep up, I've lost 2 Emperors there already.

I heard that enemies dont ever get weaker since they level up with your battle count. I've been completely ignoring the first Canal mission and explored South instead, so maybe I should go to Canal or Toba instead. But would enemies in Canal or Toba be as strong as in Gelid Ruins? Or are enemy levels the same across the world?

Right now, I have no way to get better gear.

Some maps have enemies with a baseline difficulty. The Gellid Ruins are a good example. While your "Enemy Strength" value may be at, let's say, level 5 or something, some areas have enemies that will be at the lowest something like level 20. I'm not sure what level the Gellid Ruins are considered, but that's definitely an area the game is telling you to come back later too. Or, try to risk poking around in there for good loose treasure chests and crafting materials (or an extra challenge against some of the bosses if you think you can beat them early).

Kind of had the same issue, I just went somewhere else..got skills up a bit, slightly better gear and made sure everyone had healing spells and came back and beat it.

Im at enemy level 6 right now. Have (barely) beaten Dantarg. Ever since Dantarg, the normal enemy keep getting stronger and stronger so I thought Gelid Ruin was a normal difficulty spike since this game is *that kind of game*

I'll try Toba first then. Hopefully I can develop more gears and skills on. Ive gotten plenty of skill books but idk how to use them. Internet said I have to develop more and build new building?

Also my mages are stuck with Blade of Wind and Fireball II. When the hell can I get stronger offensive magic? My melee attackers meanwhile already sparked a lot of stuff that I'm overhwlemed with no skill room.

Enemy Level and Enemy Rank are two different things.

Level is a simple stat multiplier to the enemies. It grows as you battle more.

Rank is the type of enemy you're facing and what the base strength of the enemy is. Each area has its own unique enemies and their base strength is based entirely on what enemy it is.

High Rank enemies are naturally stronger. And certain areas only have high rank enemies.

So... To put it simply, you're going to a late-game area at the early-mid game. Best thing you can do is simply leave it for later, and instead focus on the early-mid areas, like Canal Fortress.

As for the spell books... You need to develop the Arcane Institute, then upgrade it to level 2. Just level your Emperor's magic to be able to create it, and the condition to bring it to level 2 will appear in the development menu.

As for getting better spells... Light Magic can Glimmer Sunray fairly early on. Fire Magic can Glimmer Flame Whip early on too.

Once you get the Imperial University, you can also get the Heatwave (fire/wind) spell, which is a good AoE damage spell.

Earth Magic can also get Stone Shower by midgame. It won't come as fast as Sunray or Flame Whip, but you should be able to get it before you get Heatwave.

I use Fireball all the time but spark symbol just never aappeared. I think I got Fireball 2 from reincarnation, not natural spark

Spells don't show the Glimmer icon. They are glimmered at the end of the battle randomly for as long as you use the spells of the appropriate element during the battle, and you have the minimum necessary magic level to do so.

Just keep using spells and you will eventually start glimmering them.

Flame Whip is a starting spell IIRC though (not 100% sure though). I don't think it's glimmerable. You just need to teach it to your characters via the Arcane Institute.

Same as everything else: whack everything you see and focus on weapon proficiencies depending on characters.

Who's better as mage?
Freelance Mage or Court Mage?
Ive been using Freelance and give her... a Lance when I want to save BP, since I don't have other lance user. I also don't have a class that uses Axe.

Freelance and Court Mages are comparable. The strength of spells is calculated off of a unit's Intelligence and their rank in that school of magic. Both of those units - for both Male and Female, so 4 units - all fall roughly within the same range of Intelligence stats. What's probably more important is what spells they're naturally good in. You can build up any unit's magic school (or weapon) values by using a certain type over and over again, but if they're naturally good at it then it those values will grow on their own.

All of those units have different combinations of magic skills. Male Court Mages are naturally good at Water and Wind, while female Court Mages are naturally good at Wind and Fire (you can see what schools of magic they've got developed on their stat attributes page). You'll want to look at what spells are available to you and try to pick from that - in this case, Male Court Mages will have better access to healing skills (Water) and Females better access damage (Fire). But you'll want to rotate periodically to build them all up, since Magic will get much better as the game goes on.

That lance is also basically wasted on your Freelance Mage. They don't have the stats to use it well (it's based off of strength), you're building up a skill that does them no good, they won't spark techs from it... there are some exceptions, but generally mages want to stick to magic. You'll be recruiting more characters as the game goes on and you'll see some that are very good at spears, axes, etc. (Light Infantry get a pretty good skill spread and will usually do pretty well with whatever weapon you give them. They're not the best at anything, but if you want to start developing a weapon they've got you covered for the early game).
El Nasr 21 NOV 2024 a las 12:02 a. m.
Just try to cover every weapon and evevy magic element combinaison. and make them progress little by little..
Magic take more time to develop I think its after passing lvl 20 affinity than you really start unlocking good stuff...
You have 5 slot for your team , you can do many combinaison and even use your emperor to compensate some lack of affinity depending the other team member....
An archer and at little later a earth mage can help you clean the field quick with their massive attack so it always good to have one of each. too.....
For the rest, you must get good and use your skill wisely,, kill the annoying one first, place the good alteration at the right ennemi, blast them all with the right skill or coop attack to gain advantage....
You have to train for that one way or another....

Well, I went to Toba > Atlantica and kept going East to South and North, skipping quests just so I can unlock fast travels for as many areas as possible. Only did Termite Den boss and now I'm doing Calming the Volcano Quest (I'll unlock Salamander here?)
So far it's pretty easy, nothing comparable to south western regions' monsters. but now I level up really slowly (Lv25+ main proficiency)
I've fought so many battles (total 250+), and no time skip occurred yet for some reason and enemy level is still level 6

Only certain specific events can cause timeskips. They cause a black screen and send you back to Avalon.

As long as you don't clear those events, you won't get a timeskip. You can see the full list here: https://romancing-saga-2.blogspot.com/p/gameplay.html#jump

can't I just... trigger a generation skip, and then do quests until I have 14 EP, and then do Mermaid Quest to get +15 EP (total 29 EP overload worth of quests for 1 generation skip). or maybe do ALL the white quests before mermaid?

Is there a limit to the number of generation skip? like, can I trigger 15 generation skips, or is it fixed that after 4-5 times, I'd play as final emperor and can't skip anymore?

What's the downside in triggering generation skips anyway? some quests will be gone?
